He does seem to have got over his obsession of directing traffic which used to really annoy me.

Declan is getting some stick from a lot of other club supporters, things like over rated , not worth 50 mil, up himself, the rubbish that comes with playing for England, A lot digging him for speaking up after the match, which should have been the manager and captains role. lets hope playing for his country does not affect him as a person and player.

I feel more sorry for people that use the word turgid, when really they mean tepid - because no definition of turgid fits the context in which it is frequently used on this forum and elsewhere...

that misuse is not just on this site, it seems to be across football - but I always thought people really meant torpid "lacking in energy or vigor" .

Tepid does mean lacking in enthusiasm, among other definitions, so it could be either.

Unlike turgid, which is:

1.swollen and distended or congested.

2. (of language or style) tediously pompous or bombastic.
"some turgid verses on the death of Prince Albert"

Torpid, functional football doesn't have the same ring to it. I'm sticking with turgid. Especially as it annoys certain elements!

Yes, I never use it in my match reports because it isn't a particularly pleasant sounding word, and its use is rare enough that it would just distract
