Jack Leslie Statue
A bit short notice, but the statue of Jack Leslie is being unveiled at Home Park, home of Plymouth Argyle, next Friday;

I will be trying to get out of work to attend and get some pictures - anyone else planning on going?

Re: Jack Leslie Statue
Maybe a friendly down at Home Park next summer to commemorate it? The Jack Leslie cup?

I’d like that - I only live about 10-15 minutes from Home Park, so a nice easy trip for meHarlowEssexHammer wrote: ↑Tue Sep 27, 2022 7:36 pm Maybe a friendly down at Home Park next summer to commemorate it? The Jack Leslie cup?

Re: Jack Leslie Statue
I remember Viv Anderson's (the first black player to represent England) back in 1978. Don't know the guy has managed it, but he doesn't look to have aged a day since

Shout out to Paul Reaney who was the first non-white player to represent England.

Re: Jack Leslie Statue
Cheers for posting that.
From 20min on it’s a good watch. Slightly chaotic and quintessentially English, which is fitting. The bit at 28.30 I found touching.
Now that he has been posthumously awarded a cap, we can say that a lad born where our club was founded and who cut his teeth at Barking was the first man of colour to represent our country.
What a great story brought back to life.

Re: Jack Leslie Statue
Definitely something I want to check out on my next trip home. I was planning on visiting the birthplace of Bob Fitzsimmons which is in Helston, so hopefully not too far from here.

I went there on a family holiday in 1987.
It was slightly spoiled when I found out we’d lost 3-0 at home to QPR in the season opener.

About 2hrs or so by car. (don't park too near the kerb when you arrive!.... you'll see when you get there. ). While you're in Helston check out the 'Athletic' , if they've a game, they' re a good local side, or Porthleven FC just down the coast, their Gala Parc ground is very quaint. [ My sister lives in Helston.... oh, Blue Anchor, High St, Spingo Ale brewed on site.]

Re: Jack Leslie Statue
Love Helston. My step dad was based at RNAS Culdrose so we lived down there for a few years when I was a young kid. Played football for Helston U18s when I was 14!
Good times.
