Anything goes in The Snug, General Discussion's rebellious little brother. An off-topic den of iniquity where any subject not covered elsewhere may be discussed. Well, anything except golf, Star Wars and Arsenal.

If you have a limb amputated do you get the option of keeping it?
You don't "get" the option as such; severed limbs are incinerated by the hospital as "medical waste". BUT, legally speaking the limb is yours if you still want it as long as you're not going to cause a public health issue (so no putting a lead on it and dragging it along the street behind you like a rapidly necrotising chihuahua). So if you want your arm/leg/whatever, speak up sharpish before they flambé it. And you might have to jump through a few administrative hoops to make it happen; different hospital trusts have their own individual policies on "leftovers".
Thanks LC. Quite an interesting article actually. The cremation law that stipulates that you can only cremate a body part of someone deceased would make future disposal challenging (although ultimately a difficult law to enforce I would imagine).
If you and ten friends were invited for a Sunday roast by a friend who had recently had a leg lopped off I wonder how many people would harbour some niggling doubts as they shovelled in their first fork full…

Only the poor b*stard that ended up with the toes.
Quite a few people in my work have used the services of a tax reclaim company, who make a claim to HMRC on your behalf for any overpaid income tax, with them getting 30% commission. Most people seem to have got around £2-3k before commission, and I can't work out why.
We are all paid by PAYE, and as far as I'm aware the only significant allowance that you can get is Marriage Allowance where applicable, which will only net you £1,200 max. They don't get any details about how the refund has been calculated or what the company has told HMRC about them, but none of them want to ask questions, they just see it as free money, whereas I think if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
Am I missing a trick, or are they likely to get a repayment demand in a year or so?
PS we're all minimum wage warehouse workers, no offshore accounts or huge investments as far as I know

When exactly did people with the name Richard stop being called Dick? I can't find a young Dick anywhere. Etc etc.
When I go to the pub, in the sky, just south of the moon, in the sky, is a very bright "thing" that looks like a triangle with 3 lights on the botton on the triangle.
When I come out of the pub, it's still there in the same place winking away. By this time it's black and I can see the stars out there, but they are nothing like the trianglar thing, which is in exactly the same place when I return home. It's not a plane, it doesn't look at all like a star, and it appears that it hasn't moved at all.
