Women's RWC

England off to a winning start against Fiji.

Scrappy and error strewn first half saw England go in to the break in the lead 24-14.
Different story in the second half where the English were ruthless. Eventually winning 84-19.
Only a last minute Fijian try stopped it being the perfect half.

England 13 - 7 France.

A very different match from the opener. The majority of the possession and territory were England's but the French were superb in defence and in truth it was never comfortable for the English.
2 out of 2 now and the unbeaten record goes on. Also the first time in something like 16 years that the French have lost a pool match.

England 41 - 5 Australia

A good win in difficult conditions. Not a day for flinging the ball around so, not surprisingly, a game dominated by the English forwards.
Next up Canada in the semis.

The top four ranked sides in the world made it to the semis.

Canada 19 - 26 England

A tight game. England scored a quite brilliant try. From a counter ruck on the English try line when under immense pressure to run the full length of the pitch.

New Zealand 25 - 24 France.

Another tight game. France miss a last minute penalty that would have won them the match.

Didn't see the match, but read that NZ should also have been down to 14 and there was a forward pass that led to their winning try. Hyperbole, or is that actually what happened?

I’m not completely au fait with Rugby rules but the English red card was apparently because the initial contact was head to head, whereas the NZ player’s initial contact was on the shoulder before head to head and because of that was only a yellow card.
I didn’t notice if there was a forward pass to be honest but it was a TMO decision that led to the try, albeit a correct overturn of ref’s initial decision.
The team did us proud though and I have no doubt whatsoever that without that red card England would have gone on to a comfortable victory. That rolling maul is brutal.

A shame, but no disgrace in that defeat at all.

Gotta feel for the player who was sent off. Imagine getting sent off in a World Cup final with less than a quarter of the game played.

Only ever going to be one outcome after that. That we made it so close is testament to the quality of our ladies.

A fantastic test match and worthy of a World cup final.
Well done to New Zealand.

The fact that England were still in it till the last minute is absolutely astonishing.
A couple of points from me. 15v15 England win that game, for me. That said i don't think you can argue the red card. What i think you can argue is the forward pass that led to New Zealand's second try. I also don't/didn't see any real difference in the tackle that was only deemed worthy of a yellow on the English winger. Straight head on head from what the, apparently, only angle showed.

Now I'm going to be really nit picky. By the end England were in run the clock down mode. Which is understandable, but, if they'd got on with it the TMO wouldn't have had time to forensically dissect the lead up to the line out. The decision doesn't get reversed and the winning try doesn't happen.
And breathe.
Anyway, great tournament and on to the next one.
