Spain penalties were as bad as Japan's - really awful. Didn't score from any of them
Apparently each player did 1000 penalties in practice so they wouldn’t succumb to nerves…may have ended up having the reverse effect, all the takers seemed completely ****ed out walking up to the spot
When someone like Busquets, who to me you could see he was bricking himself, even with his experience then you know that you can never replicate that pressure with practice, muscle memory is still there I guess, but that pressure! Gets to the most experienced player! It really is a lottery.
Think I would pick a corner of the net walking up to the ball, not look at the keeper, ref, or crowd and just hope I connect with the ball.

Research has shown that hammering straight down the middle will be successful 9 /10
It truly is impossible to replicate the pressure. I remember growing up, our coach would try to replicate it by having us all take 5 pks and adding extra after-practice fitness exercises for all the outfield players on the team for each pk missed (ie, you don’t want to miss because you don’t want to add laps for your teammates) which is about the only way to do it. It definitely helped, but wasn’t perfect and I don’t think that works at the pro-level.
Spain's press rightly rounded on boss Luis Enrique and the entire Spain team in this morning's press. Respected journal 'El Pais' accused Enrique of adopting out dated, out moded tactics, "What is the point of having 77% possession and over a 1,000 passes, if you can only manage 1 shot on target? Serious questions now need to asked of tge Spanish FA after this shocking debacle "

I’d take a combination of Luis Enrique and Alessandro Diamanté as co-managers. Between Diamanté encouraging them to shoot at every opportunity and Enrique encouraging them to always pass and dominate possession, you may get the perfect result somewhere in the middle.
