I'm surprised it's that high, no previous Tory voter I know is happy with them

They were at 21% in July 2019 - sorry that's the nearest to the lest election I can find.

They were easily on 44/45% heading into the election come November - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opinion_p ... ll_results - so can't imagine the favourability was much far off that.

Probably. What I am getting at is that was 21 to 40 in 4 or 5 months, we are up to 2 years out from an election. It might be fun to poke them at the moment but an awful lot is likely to change by then (could be another 3 PMs down the road for one thing lol)

I thoughts you'd get one nutter just through law of averages but 20% is worrying.

Their 'net satisfaction' with the same pollster was minus 67 in Sept 2019, three months before the election.

Similar extremely negative findings can be seen not long before elections in 1987,1992 and 2015.

There is a key pointer in these Ipsos surveys, but it ain't govt favourability or voting intention.

It's the cynicism of this lot that winds me up.

They are torpedoing the wage negotiations on the railways having calculated while it's inconvenient for the public, it isn't really hurting the economy.

Most of all though, the Media are talking about the strikes, Harry and his missus and some CIA hood who has been given an 8 month suspended jail sentence.

Anything, infact, except the Government, it's sleazy deals, corrupt MP's and the state of the country.

Great diversion. They'll try and drag it out for 2 years.

Can someone who knows more than me explain whether this is as dangerous as it sounds? Seems he is relaxing rules on banks. A return to casino banking or a sensible way to ensure we can compete in a competitive global financial market?

Deary me this is desperate stuff now.

Just shows how intellectually bankrupt Tory thinking is.

Problem: We've an over financialised economy that inflates assets like housing but produces nothing anyone wants to buy and for 40 years has tipped all the wealth and power into one tiny corner of the country.

Solution: Cut any restraint on bankers bonuses, remove even the flimsy regulation that discourages the reckless & risky behaviour that bankrupted the country the last time we had to clean up after them.....all on the day one of the big beasts in the City got done for having a cavalier view of money laundering in their institutions.

We've seen this movie before, it's a disaster movie.

Under the chancellorship of the last decent PM?

Can't claim to know enough to say if it's good or bad overall but letting the financial industry loosen regulation usually ends up with them exploiting it somehow.

You know it Sam.

Regulations are to protect the weak from the powerful.....So they must be removed!

It's the lack of original thinking that suggests they (and therefore the country) are trapped in a doom-loop. In their rat-trail minds the only route to growth is through the City of London, and the only way to boost it is a race to the bottom by deregulating.

Not a thought over different routes to growth or how the fruits of our growth could be better deployed or even if 'growth' itself is desirable and beneficial.

They're trapped in an ideological straightjacket like a bunch of East Germans in 1989.

I've not got enough detail on the exact nature of what Hunt is planning here outside of the one reform mentioned in that article, but wasn't ringfencing the investment and retail arms of banks to be separate a key point from the independent commission following the 2008 crash that we implemented within the UK unilaterally - i.e. not an EU red tape thing but a UK red tape thing?

And that was carried out post-2010. So not only is that being mislabeled as EU red tape, it's actually Tory red tape that Cameron/Osborne put into place? So did the Tories stop the UK economy from growing successfully over the past 10 years as a result of regulations they put in place, and now to stimulate growth we need to get rid of their own regulations?

Not being an expert on these things, but it seems really like they're taking a backwards step that - potentially - exposes a lot of the general public to the investment risks banks might make.

More revelations about Michelle Mone's PPE deal today. The more you read the more disgusted you are. 200+ million of taxpayers money into gowns that didn't pass inspection and sit unused. People should go to prison for this

Funny to watch Hancock put the boot in to her now.

Always good to have people that know where the bodies are buried on the inside and not in the jungle trying to rebuild their lives.

Especially when previous form shows that they have no principles whatsoever

Utter dumb ****'s.

With the Tory record in procurement it will turn out not to run on our jet fuel, have issues with our radar and comms software, not be able to land on our aircraft carriers and cost 3 times more than any comparable jet but be 4 times less effective. Somehow, several cabinet ministers will have links with week-old companies who 'source' bits and pieces of mismatched equipment for it, which can't be used and end up in landfill or being burnt every day for years but makes them a packet....

They're simply too corrupt to make something like this work.
