We have a big stadium. So what?
What is the best naming rights in the league? Man City? Is it £15M a year?
We need so much more....

Do you, in all seriousness, believe that a football player and his agents, are going to force a move from one club to another, because a shampoo commercial uttered his name?
Absolutey agree. No one is irreplaceable or indispensable.ageing hammer wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 9:23 am I'm not that bothered where he goes providing we get the proper fee, every player is replacable.
I didn't say he would, I said it appears that is what they are trying.
If you worked with, had family members, socialised with, got on the train with, met randomly out and about with supporters of other London clubs where conversation tends to revert straight to football and had the same massive levels of piss taking as Londoner's do you'll realise its not so much hate but more a defense your around self preservation and dignity.
Most recently, the closest team to the San Diego Chargers during their last season was the Rams. 123 miles difference between the two. And that was only for a season before the move. Cards were 343 miles. Fellow state team Niners were 464 miles.Shabu wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 5:21 am As sh!tty as San Diego is, I'm partially glad I live here so I don't have to hate other clubs
Reading through some of these threads is f*cking mental. Do you really hate everyone this much or is it just for this forum?
If Rice goes to another English club we'll get 100 million. If he goes to a foreign club it might be half that.
He's a great player & lovely bloke but if he wants to move on then we dust our hands & move on, just like he will.
If he loves us like you seem to love him he'll stay, no matter what.
I won't care what shirt he wears. I support the players in OUR shirt.
The Pepe deal was years ago, with a smaller TV deal and no Champions League revenue.sutts07 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 10:26 am All this talk of Arsenal makes me chuckle.
Arsenal do not have the spending power to get Rice.
Pepe is the only player they have ever signed for more than £60m in their history and they have only gone above £50m on two other occasions. Arsenal may like Rice, Rice may like Arsenal, but if we are going to be asking for £80m plus... I don't see it happening.
It’s not just champions league football though, he wants to win things and that Will also mean the champions league, so he will go to a club where he feels gives him that opportunity over the length of his contractthamesideiron wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 1:41 pm I'd get it if we were paying him a Measly 75/100 K a week and that was our top line and someone came in with a 200k offer..
I'd be off and so would everyone reading this if you're honest, no matter how much you loved the club...you don't turn down
5 Mill a year to kick a ball around on a Saturday Afternoon....(Saturday Afternoon....) no matter who you are.
But Money's not the issue here...Success at the top level is...he's said he wants CL footie, fair enough we all do,does that mean with us,or
elsewhere..Press/Media/Us reckon he means elswhere.....so that's Chelsea and Scouse outta the equation, that's this year and the
forseeable as I see it now....Gaps closing on the "Top 6" now, sides are improving, top 6 aint guaranteed anymore let alone top 4.
Leaves us with ones that will Quali this year Arse,2 Mancs and Geordies...Spuds just not good enough, can see Brighton catching them.
Def a Bench sitter at City, that goes without saying,Utd have Casemiro, one of the Players around who is maybe better than Dec,so no
guaranteed start there...Arse have Partey, one of the reasons for their turnaround this year...so left with Geordies...so I honestly
don't know if in his shoes where I would go...If I wanted to play regular footie...So
Choice is a Bench Sitting trophy hunter...Or Geordies if he wants to play regular with CL footie...
Or..
He can stay and fight for the Club and Fans he says he loves, and not do the leaving a "Sinking Ship" thing..
Always try and think what would I do in someones situation....if we dropped I'd leave...if we stay up I'd see how next Jan was,
Another struggle and would be thinking bout leaving..
Could work out we have a Euro Cup on the shelf....in Europa Cup,and Knocking round 5/6 th again with an outside chance of
CL footie here.
You never Know...
There are very few clubs that aren't selling clubs.pezza20 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 9:38 am Had we had him managing the club rather than the circus master and his clowns running it then yes they probably could have been.
Instead we are still a selling club despite having one of the biggest stadiums in the country but still with no naming rights been awarded ...
I grew up close to both Millwall & Charlton grounds. Palace wasn't far away & West Ham was 5 miles away across the river. I was also born about a mile away from where Arsenal were born.Aztec Hammer wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 12:49 pm Most recently, the closest team to the San Diego Chargers during their last season was the Rams. 123 miles difference between the two. In the division with the 'rivals', Raiders were 484 miles. Broncos were 1,100 miles. Chiefs were 1,558 miles.
Arsenal is 5 miles from West Ham. Tottenham is 7 miles from West Ham. Chelsea is 11 miles from West Ham. And that's just the actual stadiums. The people live amongst each other and the 'areas' are even closer.
It would be like if you grew up in El Cajon and had a team there which well and truly was the binding point and physical representation of that little patch of culture you have, and your best player who you've brought through decided he wanted to go and play for a team in Santee where the people there are those you've interacted with your entire life and have spent it antagonising you for whatever reason. Or there's a team that were **** all for decades with a nothing fanbase but now they've built a brand new ground bang smack in the Gaslamp Quarter and because they've got a billionaire owner the football world think they're a bigger club than you and it's their divine right to take your best. The thought of their 'fans' enjoying this player winning trophies and kissing the badge for them makes you sick. There's also a team in Chula Vista who you begrudgingly try to accept is the best of a bad bunch because they're not directly a bunch of ***** - but they're still not you.
This is the English game. It's not comparable to the American. It's far more territorial when your rivals are a couple of miles from you rather than a thousand. You're around them all the time in all aspects of your life and you're very aware of what you are and what they are. There's also 100+ years of history there too, usually familial.
Don't think that's right any more. Especially if they win the league.sutts07 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 10:26 am All this talk of Arsenal makes me chuckle.

My brothers a Spurs fan, Mum Millwall, as is her family, & my Charlton born dad grew up supporting West Ham & even played for East Ham back in the 50s. My aunt lived a short walk from Highbury & would take me & my brother in the 70s as they were the team full of Irish players.
I'm a Londoner born & raised & didn't settle in America until my mid 30s.
But thanks for the pointless geography lesson
Not pointless: I learned something. I would have sworn Tottenham was closer to us than Arsenal. I’m clearly geographically challenged.
There seems to be a narrative around Grealish that he has hardly played for Man city, which is not the caseSticky wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 8:31 pm
Na, but on a serious note, I know other players must get in his ear but I am sure it they were all honest with themselves they would admit the vacuous nature of playing 15 mins here and there or sharing games. Have those players like Grealish or Phillips 'really' won any silverware?
Mum was born in Cork & came to London as a baby - just in time for WWII  Her maiden name was Dunn.
It was pointless to me, Greeniron. I know all about London teams & where they are & our rivalries. I'm just not going to be upset if Rice joins another team. I've been expecting it since he broke through, as sad as that is.
You forgot to add that both football, and society has moved on (Quite considerably) since then! The Boleyn, the seventies and God forbid, the Stone Islanders have gone. It's a different game, experience and business which whether you agree/accept/or like, won't change, EVER! Yes, many like to quote Brady (Myself included in the past) but hate is a wasted energy, especially where we are concerned!Shabu wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 8:31 pm I grew up close to both Millwall & Charlton grounds.
