West Ham 1-2 Crystal Palace
West Ham were under heavy pressure when they took the lead. When Lucas Paquetá’s stabbed pass found Saïd Benrahma, he still had Palace defenders for company but a taste for the spectacular meant he was only going to take one option. A right-footed lash gave Guaita no chance.

West Ham 2-2 Blackburn
Seven minutes before half-time, the they finally beat Aynsley Pears. Michail Antonio outmuscled Mola down the inside-right channel. The forward’s cross was wayward, but then so was Rankin-Costello’s clearance, allowing Pablo Fornals to swivel and smash an unstoppable first-time shot low to Pears’ right. [unassisted]

Finally, with 12 minutes to play, the almost unrelenting pressure paid off. A diagonal ball forward from Nayef Aguerd seeking out Jarrod Bowen was knocked down, and Antonio adjusted well to screw his shot into the bottom left-hand corner.

It's quite astonishing that Maxi Cornet is top of the charts here, isn't it, given how little time he's had on the pitch compared to others?

I think that each of his assists come from ECL; 2/5 from the Viborg qualifier.

Leeds 2-2 West Ham
The visitors equalised in first-half stoppage-time thanks to the intervention of Var. On review, referee David Coote changed his decision after initially missing Pascal Struijk's foul on Jarrod Bowen. Brazil midfielder Paqueta, at the end of a far from convincing stuttering run-up, found the left hand corner of Illan Meslier's net despite the Frenchman diving the right way to score for the first time since moving from Lyon in the summer.

Brenden Aaronson made a gift of West Ham's second goal, drilled expertly into the bottom corner from outside the area by Gianluca Scamacca 43 seconds after the restart when the Italian pounced on an errant pass from the midfielder. [unassisted]

West Ham 2-0 Everton
Jarrod Bowen scores! After Emerson’s cross is ****ed on by Kurt Zouma. There’s a VAR check and it’s tight but the goal stands. First blood to Moyes.

Bowen's next arrived seven minutes later as Tarkowski dived into a tackle on Michail Antonio in a position of little danger, allowing the West Ham forward to run into the box and deliver a low cross which was driven home from close range.

It says a lot that the top three consist of two defensive midfielders and a player that's barely played. We really need those creative players to step up between now and the end of the season.

Derby 0-2 West Ham
This is a really clever goal, with Tomas Soucek playing a nifty one-two with Michail Antonio, and the Czech midfielder nods down to Jarrod Bowen, who fires into the corner from close range!

Derby are caught cold. Pablo Fornals releases Jarrod Bowen down the right. The England international’s cross deflected up off Forsyth straight to Michail Antonio at the back post and the striker makes no mistake, nodding into an empty net.

Does Cornet really have 5 assists from 3 games and 4 sub appearances? Reason I ask is because the stats sites have him down as just 1 assist. That's a big difference.

All his assists (and Leon, I think, counts them more generously than some other sources) came in ECL and 2 came vs Viborg in that qualifying round.

So, he then got three in the group stages and, again, I stand to be corrected, but I think he doubled up against the next Danish lot we played, this time, on one occasion, winning a penalty.

The other interesting thing about his tally is that, uniquely for someone with that many direct assists, he isn't identified as contributing further back in a move to any goals at all. Soucek, for instance, has 4 direct assists and 4 contributions. Rice has 3 of each.

Yeah, I’ll find any excuse to credit a player for their involvement.

Bowen’s assist for the last goal we scored, for example. Because his cross to Antonio took a nick off a defender, he does not get an official assist for it. In my opinion, Jarrod still created and set up that goal.

My original position on this was, if you had a player that contributed nothing to your team but winning three penalties in every game, he’d have a queue of teams wanting to pay money for him. A player with 0 stats in every measured aspect of the game. No one gives assists for winning a penalty. Or taking a shot that the keeper parries to your teammate.

Always think "assist" stats can be misleading. For example in yesterday's Man United v Palace match Palace scored a goal that was a result of a miskicked shot by Doucoure which was going well wide until Schlupp reacted quickly enough to turn it in. So Doucoure gets an assist basically for cocking up a goal attemot. The other side of the coin is that if a player sets up a colleague with a goal opportunity but the player misses there is no assist. A large pinch of salt needed imo.

And then I see a stat which says Cornet has 5 assists.??? Really. When ?

West Ham 4-0 Nottingham Forest
Constant second-half pressure told when Danny Ings did what he needed to do. The striker found Jarrod Bowen with a raking pass and sprinted into the area to slide in and connect with the winger’s ball across the face of goal.

Minutes later he was again in the right place to bundle in Said Benrahma’s ball and all but secure a win

Declan Rice exchanged passes with Said Benrahma and, from outside the box, clipped a beautiful goal to cement victory.

Michail Antonio headed in a forth against his former side with his first touch. A good header at the back post after really good feet from fellow sub Pablo Fornals who supplied the cross.

AEK Larnaca 0-2 West Ham
Said Benrahma swings in a delivery from the left wing and Michail Antonio, directs his header into the right corner from seven yards. The West Ham forward was completely unmarked there.

West Ham have been pushing for a second and they have got it. Michail Antonio collects the ball from Declan Rice about 20 yards out and is given time and space to take aim. He does not disappoint, using his marker as a screen and curling the ball into the top right corner.
