Re: England Rugby/Six nations 2023
Ben Youngs is only good at kicking and running with the ball. Unfortunately his game is only suited to playing behind a totally dominant pack, which is not something England have with the number of back row forwards (or players that would suit that role) they like to put into the second row. If you watch Youngs over the years he has never been able to fire a pass off the back of a scrum or ruck without the need for a back lift. I have no idea why this has not been coached out of him as it is such a simple fix. Him being caught in possession while running across the pitch (rather than up it) was criminal. It isn't the first time that his appearance on the pitch has turned a winning position into a losing one.
It is the one area where the English team is particularly weak as quicker passing would create more space for all of the backs outside the breakdown and may even mean that Smith / Farrell works all of a sudden.
Malins had a good game on one wing, but I think the kick chasing ability of May was missed - especially with the number of kicks made. It was Hassel-Collins debut and I am sure there is far more to come from him.
The glaring error that swung the game was Curry missing the tackle on Ben White to let him score. As White had mis-controlled the ball and it had run through his legs he should have been mullered rather than missed completely. I put this down to a slight delay in the decision making to react to the situation.
All in all I actually think England were the better team over the full 80 minutes despite the defeat. I went to Wales vs Argentina last Autumn and it was similar in that a couple of incidents swung the game in favour of the slightly poorer team on the day. There is hope.

^^^^Borthwick must read KUMB Youngs dropped from squad to face Italy
Experienced scrum-half Ben Youngs has been left out of England's 29-man squad to face Italy in the Six Nations on Sunday.
Northampton's Alex Mitchell is included as one of the two scrum-halves along with Jack van Poortvliet.
Flanker Ben Curry, who started the 29-23 defeat by Scotland, has also been left out as has wing Anthony Watson.
Wing Henry Arundell, centre Henry Slade and flanker Jack Willis are all included.
Slade (hip) and Arundell (foot) have both recovered from injury to be available for selection.
England head coach Steve Borthwick will confirm his matchday 23 on Friday afternoon.

Off to watch England v Italy on Sunday. I’ve a sneaking suspicion that it could be a memorable game … for the wrong reasons. If Italy replicate the form of last weekend, there could be an upset.

Farrell senior has got Ireland playing some nice stuff.
France to finish bottom. Squeaked a win last week but look out of sorts.dasnutnock3 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 11, 2023 3:36 pm Italy win tomorrow and England are looking at a spoon this year I think.

Re: England Rugby/Six nations 2023
Anything’s possible I guess but if England defends vs France like they did against the scotch, they’re toast. Wales won’t want to lose at home and Ireland are going to pump everyone.

I know it's for a good cause, but christ almighty, that tartan is enough to make your eyes bleed.

Re: England Rugby/Six nations 2023
They were today....but guaranteed they'll play like vintage All Black's next time out!
I might be controversial here but I still don't think Scotland are all that...epitome of a one man team IMO.
Properly enjoyed the Ireland v France game...both are light years ahead of everyone else in 6 Nations. I fear we could end up with only 1 win this year

Wales will give us a run for their money to claim that - they were pretty dire today. Gatland’s focus is deffo on the World Cupdasnutnock3 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 11, 2023 3:36 pm Italy win tomorrow and England are looking at a spoon this year I think.

England will beat Italy, but the sheep botherers always play at 200% at home vs England.
I fancy we’ll beat France at Twickers. Scotch vs Paddies shootout?

Re: England Rugby/Six nations 2023
My concern vs French is the pace at which they play...not sure we can compete with that. Ireland did show that if you can, there are still the old French discipline problems there to exploit.
Agree vs. Wales.... Its a mentality I've never been able to understand. Less so Ireland these days, but certainly with Scotland and Wales. There's this desperate desire to see England lose...to the point where they seem to get more pleasure in England losing then them winning. ****ing weird...
