Fawlty Towers Returning ?!?!
One of TV’s greatest ever sit coms, Fawlty Towers is to return.
Over 40 years since it finished, after a mere 12 episodes, a deal has been struck to revive the antics of Basil Fawlty. The beauty of Fawlty Towers is that it didn’t outstay its welcome and quit at the top.
There is only one way this can go, sadly.

Agreed. I mean it's not even 'yesterday's dinner' they'd be trying to re-hash plus times and audiences have changed a lot. Good luck, but it's going to get panned

30 years too late, most of the cast are dead, the world is now too PC and stuck up it's own arse to enjoy actual funny comedy without someone getting offended.
Retire John you were a genius but don't bother it's not worth it.

Poor sod really should have stopped getting married. This will be an unfunny disaster of monumental proportions. He stopped being funny in the mid 80s.

Re: Fawlty Towers Returning ?!?!
I still struggle to comprehend that there were only 12 episodes!!!!!
It may work, but like you all I sadly can't see it. I think there is a market for "slapstick" comedy, it's sadly lacking today, all be it slapstick for Fawlty Towers may be considered a derogatory term for it - I don't mean it that way at all.

Dear lord. What is he now? 80 odd?
Maybe a what happened after he retired show might work, but a simple carry on from before sounds horrendous.

Cleese hasn't done anything worth watching for nearly 50 years - I strongly doubt this is going to be a sudden return to form

Dear oh dear, from what I’ve seen/heard of Cleese in the last few years I’m guessing this will be his old man shouts at cloud/war on change (woke).

Re: Fawlty Towers Returning ?!?!
Fawlty Towers was one of those shows where I liked it, a lot, and yet, the character 'Basil' exactly what I dislike in comedy, a shouty 'slapsticky' and over exaggerated. Never understood how I liked it
Cleese just being Cleese, horrible.

Re: Fawlty Towers Returning ?!?!
I tend to agree. I loved the series when it came out. We were living in the UK at the time. There wasn't anything like it on tv at the time. I have tried watching it again recently and I found it grating. FT was a progenitor for this kind of rage slapstick (there were sketch shows that did it first, I know) but cringe slapstick has been done to death now. I don't know why the entertainment industry doesn't feel like we Gen Xers are capable of enjoying new content. We don't require the resurrection of all the programs we enjoyed back in the 70's, 80's and 90's to keep us comfortably appeased on our sofas.

Re: Fawlty Towers Returning ?!?!
edited for brevity.....
I think it's because there's a load of reboots..the cinema has been a prime mover of this.
but look at US tv for example.
Magnum PI
Hawaii 5-0
they've rebooted Criminal Minds and stuck Evolution behind it, CSI is now CSI Vegas
they've brought back the "original" Law and Order.
I'm sure there's some more that have escaped me but I often wonder "is there a lack of creativity with script writers these days ?" or just that there's some movies and tv shows that were popular and they figure "we'll get our "older" audiences back who are now "older" in reality and there's a base viewership on tap already.........."

https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radi ... ohn-cleese
This Cleese spends his life on Twitter, huffing about the world. This Cleese goes on the BBC to tell everyone that he has been banned by the BBC. This Cleese won’t stop complaining that his old shows aren’t on television any more, even though most of them are. This is the Cleese whose last big role was in Clifford the Big Red Dog, whose most recent sitcom was airless and stuffy – who is about to have his own GB News show, for crying out loud.
Imagine this Cleese as Basil Fawlty. Imagine him “navigating the modern world” and all that involves. Imagine how every episode will end with him complaining about cancel culture until he runs out of breath. Imagine how the series will finish with a 45-minute sequence in which he curls up into a ball and babbles about how everything is far too woke these days.

Re: Fawlty Towers Returning ?!?!
Farty Owls to return
From a description I read elsewhere he'll be rehashing his show on GBeebies attacking wokery. The UK TV sitcom Fawlty Towers is set to be revived after more than 40 years.
John Cleese, who played Basil Fawlty, will be returning to write and star alongside his daughter Camilla Cleese.
The classic show ran for two series on BBC Two in 1975 and 1979, following the lives of Torquay hotelier Basil and his wife Sybil as they tried to keep their business and marriage afloat.
The new series will explore how the misanthropic Basil navigates the modern world.
Castle Rock Entertainment announced on Tuesday it had closed a deal with Cleese to bring back the television series, but it's not yet clear which channel or streaming service it would appear on.
The revival will also see Basil and his daughter, who he has just discovered is his, team up to run a boutique hotel.
