Romford Bull Johnny Fisher wins again, and looking a lot more poised than he did at the start of his career.

Dan Azeez of Lewisham won the European Light Heavyweight title in France last night.

Azeez is a top bloke who only took up boxing as a release when he was at the University of Essex studying for a degree in Accounting.

Turned pro at 28 & wanted to do things the old school way so won the Southern Area title, then the British, then Commonwealth & now European.

I doubt if he's going to get a title shot anytime soon with the belts being held by the two Russian lads - who will probably meet this year - so maybe a good domestic matchup will happen.

The UK has Callum Smith (Liverpool), Joshua Buatsi (Croydon), Anthony Yarde (Ilford), Azeez (Lewisham), Spider Richards (Crystal Palace) & Lyndon Arthur (Manchester). All quality operators at Light Heavy. None of them young so I hope we get to see them against each other sooner rather than never.

North Londons John "The Gorilla" Ryder has a chance to create history for himself when he challenges Canelo Alvarez in Gingers hometown of Guadalajara on May 6th.

Ryder was a domestic level British Middleweight but the move up to Super Middle has done him the world of good. Both his losses at that weight were disputed on points with many thinking his loss to Callum Smith was a robbery. Coincidentally, three of the fighters who have beaten Ryder lost to Canelo.

Ryder will be Canelo's EIGHTH English opponent.

This reminds of when Scouser Andy Holligan fought Julio Cesar Chavez in front of 100,000 in Mexico in 1993. I somehow convinced myself that Holligan could do it. He was completely outclassed & his corner pulled him out at the end of the 5th.

This was back when Don King would do his mega bills. There must have been ten or so World Champions (at some point in their career) on the undercard.

Blimey, another high profile Matchroom boxer has switched allegiances & signed with Boxxer, meaning exposure on Sky Sports.

Ben Shalom is hoovering up Eddie Hearns fighters who seem to be unhappy with how things are going now that DAZN is floundering.

Joshua Buatsi has been with Hearn since he turned pro in 2017, but has only had 16 fights & hasn't fully made a name for himself. He's 16(13)-0 & has been out of the ring since he beat Craig Richards back in May.

He's another one of the decent British Light Heavies although I think they're all a level below the two Russians. I'd much rather the British lads all fought each other rather than wait around for a possible shot at the main men.

Not sure if Hearns will be focusing more on his overseas fighters in the future. He has a growing stable of American, Mexican & Aussie fighters plus a healthy grip on the female boxing market.

If Joshua loses or looks bad in two weeks it could be a very interesting year in UK Boxing.

Looking like it. Usyks side saying it's off while Fury's side saying it's still on.

The Heavyweight division is a bit pony at the moment after showing so much potential for a few years.

If Joshua gets through Franklin on the 1st Hearn wants to match him with Whyte which is not really that inspiring. It might be a good fight but it's a blatant money grab.

For the future we have Danny Dubois who looks a bit limited at top level. The American Jared Anderson looks the business so far. Aussie boy Justis Huni sounds like a porn star but has talent. Like Anderson he's only 23.

There's a few decent English fighters coming through although most of them not that young. I like Fabio Wardley. Frasier Ckarke & Soloman Dacres are being rushed as they both turned pro relatively late. Johnny Fisher is being groomed as the next Ricky Hatton but he's not going to reach that level. It'll be fun to watch him though. And then there's Moses Itauma from Chatham who made his pro debut at 18 years old in January. He fights again this week & next month & they are talking about him beating Tysons record as the youngest champ.

Deontay Wilder is ready to replace Tyson Fury as Oleksandr Usyks next opponent.

That would be an interesting fight. Usyk would win every second of every round BUT if Wilder does land it will be interesting to see how Usyk handles it.

Wilder has knocked down every opponent he's fought. And even though I felt Fury was robbed of a victory in their first bout, many refs would have stopped the fight when Fury was out cold on the canvas.

Far too soon for anyone to talk about Itauma being a world champion.

Absobloodylutely. I remember something similar said about Daniel Dubois.

But promoters gotta promote. If it gets them & their fighters press they're going to say it.

Callum Simpson reminds be a bit of Callum Smith - very big for a super middleweight, very heavy handed. Not sure if he’ll ever be in Smith’s league but there you go.

A nice article about a fighter I like who's defending her title in Fresno tonight. Seniesa 'Superbad' Estrada 23(9)-0 fights Tina Rupprecht 12(3)-0-1 of Germany defending her Mimimumweight belt. Interesting story about her desire to box from a young age & her fathers battles against heroin & gang life in Los Angeles.

Great fight against Alex Arthur. One of the best fights I’ve ever seen.

Okolie about to start. Hopefully he’s more aggressive under sugarhill.

Light carrying his hands very low. Not sure that’s wise against someone with Okolie’s power.

Very one sided. Okolie wins every round. Light shows a great chin.

Not much more to say.

Okolie really is a tough watch. I went to see him versus Chamberlain and the fight was shocking, he was a bit better tonight, but he’s like an Octopus tying his opponent up at every chance.

David Light, looked quite game but just couldn’t get inside without getting wrapped up in Okolie’s arms. Great chin as well, surprised he didn’t go down in the latter rounds.

There is no way Okolie will ever be a household name and a big draw though with his fighting style.
