Re: The weather
We have another 'atmospheric river' coming to California in the next few days.
I'm not sure if there's a difference between an atmospheric river & a regular storm but we've had a bunch of them lately.
Yesterday was Southern California weather, warm & sunny. But that's only been about half a dozen of them in the last five months.
It's depressing the locals. People are confused. What happened to our sunshine?

Re: The weather
We had a mini me hurricane this afternoon. Technically speaking, a "cyclone bomb." It had been raining quite hard all day and out of the blue the winds got quite severe. Ranging up to 80mph. Knocked an 18 wheeler over on the bridge, barges broke free from their moorings and slammed into a small bridge by the stadium. Trees down everywhere. It even had its own sunny storm eye at the center of the cyclone.Had no idea it was coming. It was an eye opener.

Are you still in Dornoch? T shirt and beach weather really! We were near there last summer, Rockfield near Portmahomack. A lovely, relaxing part of the world. The Old Man of Storr wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 8:57 am Rain rain , more rain and what looks like strong wind .

The bad weather was back on Skye , Pablo .
We're actually at Embo , hired a caravan for 3 nights [ £139 ] - the weather here hasn't been too bad at all although it blew last night and it's doing something similar tonight .
We drove to Forsinard Flows today , an RSPB project in amongst the boggy marshes - a walkway made of decking type material leads you to a tower about a mile away - turn left at Helmsdale and follow a single track road for 24 miles which goes alongside the beautiful River Helmsdale [ aka River Ullie ] - there were deer , 2 eagles and a few Lapwings [ never realised they were so big and I've never heard their song / noise until today , beautiful ] - there were quite a few fishermen about , apparently it's one of Scotland's best salmon rivers .
Today started off with light rain but it soon turned to blue skies if not a little cold - all in all a lovely day out .

Re: The weather
Weather was fantastic in Snowdonia over the weekend just gone.
Was forecast be be wet and grim, but the Gods must have been feeling generous, because it was superb considering.

Re: The weather
Is it just me getting older, or has the weather so far in 2023 (in southern England at least) been colder and wetter than usual?
It's the end of March, but still feels like February to me. I should be wearing shorts in work by now, but that seems a long way off.
Are there any meteorological statisticians out there who can compare this year to the past?
