Anything goes in The Snug, General Discussion's rebellious little brother. An off-topic den of iniquity where any subject not covered elsewhere may be discussed. Well, anything except golf, Star Wars and Arsenal.

Starting my last week at work before taking early retirement. Got Friday as holiday too so only 4 days to go.
Went to see my Grandad today - he is 103 and is now in a residential home after having having lived in his own flat up until Xmas. One of the reasons that he went in was because he started to forget to take medication and was becoming less mobile. Over the past few weeks, he has been getting noticably weaker and more frail. Saw him on Saturday and he was just lying there, barely able to speak - we know that he is getting to the end. I popped in to see him after work and he was up, dressed, watching the TV - a total contrast to the weekend. We even had a walk around the home too.
It’s quite a small thing in the scheme of things but did really lift my spirits and make me smile (more of a broad grin tbh!). I know that there may not be much time left but Grandad really has given me hundreds of fabulous memories.
^^^ never really knew mine. I did know my great aunt who I was lucky enough to be able to pop over hers during school lunches. Used to love seeing her. Loads of home made apple pies and gallons of tea.
I do remember being quite jealous of a mate of mine who's nan lived near us when I was little. We'd go over there and she'd feed us poached eggs on toast and fruit squash, was lovely after a long day out playing on our bikes. Have always loved a decent poached egg ever since.
Amazing that I can still remember that from all those years ago.
Sister, who recently suffered a SCAD heart attack, getting the all clear(ish) from the specialist.
No sign of further tears and a thumbs up to get back to normal living (as long as she listens to her body and rests when she needs it) MRI planned on her brain just to check there are no weaknesses in the blood vessels there. (obviously lots of jokes about weaknesses in her brain etc though)

Whatever he's been drinking Pablo, I'll have some!
One of the toilet cubicles at work has been out of toilet paper for over a week now. Yesterday, I put a post-it note on the dispenser politely asking if the paper could be replaced by the overnight cleaning staff. When I checked today, it was gone but there was still no paper. I mentioned to a colleague that it was odd that they saw the the note but didn't re-stock the paper. He suggested that the note may have been 'used'.

He was partial to making his own elderflower wine back in the day!! Spoke to my mum today - Grandad not having such a good day. I feel for anyone who misses their grandparents - I’ve been lucky to have 4 wonderful ones, and am totally blessed getting ‘Happy Birthday Grandson’ cards in my mid 50s.
Maybe this should be posting on the cooking thread, but... my daughter, who happens to be a great baker (when she can be bothered), made my son’s birthday cake. She basically screwed it up.
He's been going on about it ever since. So my wife baked a lovely marble cake earlier this week, using a bit of Nutella mixed in the butter icing.
My god, I can't stop eating it, he is going to be so p*ssed when he comes home from school and sees whats left of it...
See you writing that TOMOS, missus was out last night and I couldn't be arsed to cook for just me, so done myself a cheese and onion sandwich with uncut bread, some colmans in there as well, my god, for such simplicity it was a thing of pure beauty.
Sitting in the office and the dog bed is down by the desk. We have three dogs but there's only room for two in the dog bed. Both the pug and the Jack Russell were asleep in there and my other dog comes in, sees there's no room and looks up at me all dough-eyed and sad. I pat him on the head, tell him not to worry and promptly order another bed off Amazon.
Afterwards I couldn't help thinking I've just acted out a really cheesy ad for Amazon without even knowing it, the kind of vomit inducing stuff you see on the box frequently.
Not sure if this should be in the Irritate thread or not

You ordered from Amazon, hope your neighbours have a dog then
