Not that I'd go for 442 in this game, I do however believe the good old 442 formation is making more and more of a comeback in the game and was always a big fan of it when having the players available to do so.BethnalGreenHammer74 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2023 5:46 pm I can see this being an entertaining game with two teams going for it. Would like to see Moyes go 442, but know he won’t.

Yes there is - I want Cresswell’s crossing and dead balls. There are few people with better balls than our Aaron.

Without putting too finer point on it - and you know I respect you IB, but Cresswell is f*cking sh*t.Ironing Board wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2023 8:07 pm Yes there is - I want Cresswell’s crossing and dead balls. There are few people with better balls than our Aaron.
You and a few others need to let it go. He is not PL level anymore and will either get done for pace or have balls knocked over the top. He gets targeted. That's hardly a ringing endorsement.

He does fine when Fornals is covering. One positive is it stops people targeting the right side! :lol:Sticky wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2023 8:18 pm Without putting too finer point on it - and you know I respect you IB, but Cresswell is f*cking sh*t.

Emerson 23 games 2 assists 2 goals
We look better with Emerson and clearly aren't missing any attacking play

So losing Pablo to cover Cresswell is a good move. Surely letting Fornals do what he does best without having to babysit the LB would be the better option.Ironing Board wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2023 8:21 pm

What about secondary assist? Would be an interesting stat to see.

11 cresswell 6 Emerson
5 difference
3 when you adjust for Emerson's 2 goals
So 3 more overall in 3 more games
I'd take Emerson every day
He is much better defensively

Here's their Premier League stats for this season. Interestingly, Cresswell has an average rating of 7.01 vs Emerson's 5.87. Cresswell also as 2.58 expected assists per game vs. Emerson's 0.88. His passing is also clearly superior, at least statistically:mumbles87 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2023 8:43 pm viewtopic.php?t=183966&start=40

I think West Ham fans are very hyperbolic about how bad Cresswell apparently is, but regardless there's no justification for dropping Emerson.
He has to start.

I think, if you just look at those bald statistics, Cresswell is a better bet. For me the biggest thing Emerson seems to have going for him is he is not Cresswell!Bubbles Fortuna wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2023 8:50 pm I think West Ham fans are very hyperbolic about how bad Cresswell apparently is, but regardless there's no justification for dropping Emerson.

He has got progressively worse season by season due to his ageBubbles Fortuna wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2023 8:50 pm I think West Ham fans are very hyperbolic about how bad Cresswell apparently is, but regardless there's no justification for dropping Emerson.

He suffered after his knee injury but found form when put in a back 5 and then trusted his knee again
However last season he wasn't good , apart from corners
This season his pace is gone and he gets rinsed and targeted

The thought of Walcott running at Creswell brings me out in a cold sweat.

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Southampton: match thread
For 442 to function in this era would surely mean Dyche and Burnley style tactics. Not sure how else it would work.
Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Southampton: match thread
Obviously. So is David Beckham's passing, but I still wouldn't want him at LB for us now.Ironing Board wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2023 8:48 pm Here's their Premier League stats for this season. In the past, yes. This season after Emerson has had a run? Definitely not.Ironing Board wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2023 8:07 pm Yes there is - I want Cresswell’s crossing and dead balls. There are few people with better balls than our Aaron.

Emerson's trajectory is on an upward swing, particularly in recent games. Although we might love him dearly for his past contributions (well, some of them) Cress's are not.Ironing Board wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2023 8:52 pm I think, if you just look at those bald statistics, Cresswell is a better bet. So you want to fit Cresswell in at LB by dropping our LW (who is our top scorer and has the most assists and most chances created) for an attacking midfielder to baby sit him so he can take a few corners?Ironing Board wrote: ↑Mon Mar 27, 2023 8:21 pm

Re: ⚽ West Ham Utd v Southampton: match thread
I've never understood some of the stick cresswell used to get, but he's definitely looking well past his best lately. Conversely Emerson seems to be slotting in well now, and his runs inside give Benny more room to manouvre. Emerson every time now
