I've never taken to Rapping or Hip-Hop or whatever it's called .

Jazz - I've never made a point of listening to it - I've heard bits and bobs of course , it's just that I never seek it out as such .

It always sounds like a fire in a pet shop to me.

I want to like it in order to feel sophisticated but I find it all just sounds the same in the end .

From experience, I found that Jazz musicians are the most moody, egotistical and pretentious of all genres and I couldn't work out why until someone told me this:

"Rock musicians will play three chords to thousands of people. Jazz muscians will play thousands of chords to three people".

And that's a fact!

I've got more into it as I've got older,.I've always liked Prog and Fusion type stuff since I was young and the move from that to straight jazz is less leap and more step.

And trust me, if you haven't worked it out from my ramblings on KUMB, I ain't sophisticated

What is it called these days KH, are there lots of sub genres now?

I suppose old blokes like me might say they'll not still be playing that stuff in 50 years time, rather like our parents said to us way back.

I met a friend of a friend on Friday. Seemed like quite an OK bloke, but it turned out that he's a big fan of Sting. He made me promise to give it a go, and listen with an open mind. So today I did.

It's far far ****ing worse than I ever imagined.

I'm generally a very mild mannered sort, but after about five tracks I just felt properly punchily angry. Apologies to all concerned, but if you like Sting we can never be friends because you are clearly dangerous.

He's ok but I've always thought his songs & songwriting to be a bit too rigid & mathematical for my full liking... I'm not too sure what I even mean by that..
However, this cover was pretty good, imo.

Right, time to educate myself once again on a band that has always passed me by.

I think the problem I have with albums like Isn't Anything, or more broadly most shoegaze offerings, I compare them with Slowdive, who I find to be generally leagues apart from anything I've heard from the era, genre, scene etc. Perhaps somewhat unfair as i bloody love Slowdive (and that their offerings go beyond shoegaze alone), but i have so much more emotional investment when listening to their albums.

Not so much given a proper go but I tried a couple of Nick Cave's so called best albums.

Just couldn't get into any track at all.

I love Isn't Anything, but I think the key texts are the You Made Me Realise 12", Loveless and the To Here Knows When 12". :newthumb:

Plus, I'm sure Slowdive would be first to admit that they were heavily influenced by MBV, JAMC, Loop etc.

Country & heavy rock, it's just so far from what I like, but then I'm a huge hip-hop/rap lover, the modern day poets 8-)
