Good performance there, terrible stoppage though. Ref far too keen to jump in.

Re: Boxing thread
Roy Jones fights this weekend. He is 54 & hasn't fought in over 5 years. He's fighting a bloke on his debut. No idea why.
https://boxrec.com/en/event/868509/2937937
Also, Anthony Joshua fights this weekend. His first fight with new trainer Derrick James who is in charge of probably the best gym in the world right now. His fighters are pretty aggressive so we'll see if we get more of the 'old' Joshua. He's tried to box more since the knockout to Ruiz but he should try to get back to the seek & destroy merchant of younger years. But as Marvin Hagler once said "It's tough to get out of bed to do roadwork at 5am when you're sleeping in silk pyjamas."
He didn't just mean this literally but he was talking about the killer mentality.
The bloke AJ is fighting is tough but hasn't beaten anyone of note, although he did run Dillan Whyte close. But Whyte has looked a bit shot lately. I expect Joshua to win & if he wins on points that's a big plus.
I'd love for him & Fury to fight at Wembley this summer. Two great British heavyweights really really should meet. I'd favour Fury but would not rule out an upset.

Re: Boxing thread
The fight that everyone want to see isn't going to.happen(Fury/Usyk).
But the media like to tell.us,the only fight we really want to see is Fury/Joshua.If AJ wins tomorrow, that's all we will hear.
I want to see the 2 best fighters, not one that has lost 3 from the last 5.

Re: Boxing thread
Franklin came in 22 pounds lighter than when he fought Whyte just a few months ago while Joshua is a career heaviest.
Leads me to think that Franklin going to use movement to try to take it into the later rounds while Joshua on a seek and destroy mode.
Will be interesting if it does go later. Will AJs stamina be OK?

AJ a career heaviest? That raised my eyebrows.Shabu wrote: ↑Fri Mar 31, 2023 4:03 pm Franklin came in 22 pounds lighter than when he fought Whyte just a few months ago while Joshua is a career heaviest.

I don't read the media here.
I read uk news. I've read nothing but fury usyk for weeks. It ain't the media's fault they couldn't make a deal.

Re: Boxing thread
AJ looked massive. Franklin can really box but will surely be overpowered? Genuinely curious to see which AJ turns up after a couple of months with Derrick James.
Decent undercard too. Really like Galal Yafai.

Disappointed that Felix Cash has pulled out again. Eddie is trying to build him v Ammo Williams (USA) but Cash keeps pulling out of fights with unspecified illnesses at the last minute.Morocco Mole wrote: ↑Sat Apr 01, 2023 4:06 pm AJ looked massive. Cash looked great when destroying Denzil Bentley two years ago but since then has just had two lacklustre points wins against so so opposition.
Bentley, meanwhile, regained the British title he lost to Cash, defending it & put in a sterling challenge for the WBO title in Vegas.
Funny how fighters react to a loss/win.
Hoping Joshua looks good. There's no shame in him losing to Usyk who, in my humble opinion, would give anyone in history a good fight - he is that good - and I still want to see him against Fury. Or Wilder.
But especially Fury. Two UK heavyweights, in a massive stadium fight in London or Manchester. I hope (if it comes off) Hearn doesn't put it on in the Middle East.

More on Ken Buchanan's passing here from the BBC -
I remember my Dad and I watching him win the WBA Lightweight title beating Ismael Laguna back in 1970 .
A cracking little fighter .

Re: Boxing thread
Looking at Joshua's weights over the years & he's only weighed more than 250 once & that was the fight against Takam in which he won every round but didn't look explosive.
He did weigh 250 for Klitschko.
He was 'only' 237, 240, 240 & 244 in the four fights since the Ruiz loss. Weighed in at 255 yesterday, so basically an extra stone.
In his last three fights Franklin has weighed 231, 277, 257 so who knows what to make of him weighing 234 for tonights bout
I still think AJ needs to put a hurting on Franklin to make the public really want a Fury bout. He's obviously still a tad gun shy since Ruiz countered him into oblivion. Hopefully James will have installed a bit of the old warrior back into him.

I have checked the first one and it's open for me, but remember that I live in Ecuador and there's not too much in the way of shutting down free sporting sites.
good luck mate...
