Re: The Relegation Thread
I agree that those banking on it being a low points total are going to be disappointed, I think we are looking a minimum of 38 points to stay up especially as relegation battling sides start picking up unexpected points against higher places sides who are on the beach.
Fail to win tomorrow and I can't see us exceeding that total, in fact if we lose tomorrow and unless Moyes is dismissed as a result I think that would be us pretty much done whilst he remains.
Regardless of the result against us I still think Southampton will drop along with Nottingham Forest and if we don't get 3 points against the Saints it will be us to joining them (unless Moyes is sacked) otherwise if we win it would be Bournemouth in my view.

Re: The Relegation Thread
Whole place needs a morale boost - play some decent football, get at least 3 goals
and Moysey will win the fans back for the relegation fight.
Nothing other than 3 points will do tomorrow - no excuses, no b*llocks just ****ing win
a home game by playing attacking "must-win" football for a change.
Anyone have Alan Curbishleys number just in case COYI - no ****ing around tomorrow - just ****ing win
and Moysey will win the fans back for the relegation fight.

Well if the players cannot get up for this game then they are not worthy of this club anyway. If Moyes has an ounce of b*llocks he sends them out with that mindset to win at all costs.
And moreover for the paying public.

Re: The Relegation Thread
It was similar in terms of how close it was, but not how many points teams had.PK wrote: ↑Fri Mar 31, 2023 3:39 pm All this talk of a low points tally needed to stay up but back in 2011 it was very similar at this stage of the season with just 6 pts separating 11th to 20th.
2010/11
11 Everton 27 -1 33
12 Aston Villa 28 -12 33
13 Fulham 28 0 32
14 Blackburn 28 -11 32
15 Blackpool 28 -13 32
16 Birmingham 26 -10 30
17 West Brom 28 -17 29
18 Wolves 28 -15 28
19 West Ham 28 -16 28
20 Wigan 28 -22 27
This is the final table from that season, we tailed off gaining only 5pts from the last 10. Birmingham & Blackpool both went down on 39 pts.
11 West Brom 38 -15 47
12 Newcastle 38 -1 46
13 Stoke 38 -2 46
14 Bolton 38 -4 46
15 Blackburn 38 -13 43
16 Wigan 38 -21 42
17 Wolves 38 -20 40
18 Birmingham 38 -21 39
19 Blackpool 38 -23 39
20 West Ham 38 -27 33
Goes to show how suddenly it can all change. Let's hope we pick up more points from our run in this year
That season last place had 27 points after 28 matches. This season 27 points would see you in 14th.
It'll be in the 35-37 points range needed to stay up.

Might put some money on Leicester dropping - Rodgers hasn't looked like he gives a f*** from the off.

Re: The Relegation Thread
As the print, online and tv media make a big deal out of the title race, they yet again fail to realise that the relegation fight is always better.
None of the glamour and less names, but it’s more important, always has a changing guard, but also keeps some of the same names who become heroes of the battle.
This year’s is arguably the best yet and they’ll still focus on Arsenal/City more.
I really have had Bournemouth going down the whole time, but even though I think I’d predicted this win, it’s all the moving pieces each time. It’s how important your three points is. One week a team will win and feel massively buoyed by the results around them. One week you can win and see others get points too, and it won’t feel as seismic.
There’s so many moving pieces, momentum will be so key that predictions are hard to make even this close to the end. Maybe even in five games time.
Gonna enjoy keeping track of how my final table changes each week by doing a complete fixture prediction after each round of games.

Re: The Relegation Thread
Gary O’Neil has really fallen under the radar with regards to the job he’s done at Bournemouth. He deserves a lot of credit for making them competitive enough to give his team a fighting chance of staying up.
Even if they do go down I hope they stick by him and give him a chance.

THE TEAMS I WOULD LIKE TO GO DOWN
everton leeds leicester
win today and I think we will be ok. lose and I think the wounds in the squad will open and we will lose all the other games this week.
moyes is lucky he is in a job after 14 months of relegation form. awful play and little tactics. lose and he must go tonight as we hit rock bottom !
Being positive we win today and the garden is smelling all roses ! lose and its horse manure all round !

Re: The Relegation Thread
It's pretty normal for one or two of the bottom clubs after three games to still be there after 38 and to go down.
That was Leicester, Wolves and us.
Still looking a reasonable punt, isn't it?

Re: The Relegation Thread
Arsenal/City/Liverpool and Man United still to play. Leeds and Leicester in the last 2 fixtures too which depending on the circumstances then, is entirely unpredictable.
We need points from Newcastle and Fulham and we can sit a little more comfortable.

Re: The Relegation Thread
I guessed that Forest might win two more games this season before the break, reasoning that they had to play Wolves, Leeds, Southampton.
Well, they've blown the first one.
I don't see who they are capable of beating beyond those sort of teams. Bournemouth look better equipped now.

19th Saints
20th Forest
Is where I think it will end up.
Forest are the worst team in the league by a fair distance
