Braverman claiming to know nothing about Rwandan police murdering a dozen refugees that were protesting over their treatment/conditions back in 2018.

So she's either thick, lying or lazy. Strong combo that.

EU sending Libyan asylum seekers to Rwanda? Have I not read far back enough on the thread? Where'd you get that from, genuinely interested.

"Therefore, while it is true that EU countries (including Denmark) are helping to send a small number of refugees or asylum seekers to Rwanda, the EMT scheme operates only in Libya and is not the same as the scheme being proposed by the UK Government."

We're not in the EU so I'm not sure what relevance their mistakes have.

When Laura Kuenssberg questioned her about the Rwanda Deal , the bit that doesn't get mentioned ...i.e. that there's an agreement in place for the UK to take in Rwanda's most vulnerable refugees dear old Suella clammed up or talked about something else entirely - LK asked the question 3 times , SB ignored it 3 times .

Thanks Chelmsford:
"The EU does provide funding for a scheme that takes vulnerable asylum seekers from Libya to Rwanda, but this does not operate inside the EU itself."

Still scratching me head about this though. So is it a policy that's been inherited from the EU or is it the EU or not the EU :eh: Expect if looked into it's a LOT more complicated. How much does the chaotic Libyan government control this? I mean, it's still a war zone.

Marginally safer than Libya or a holiday camp depending on which side of the spectrum you sit

Probably not, at the moment it's an expensive deflection.

If we were to, then given what we know already it could be a relatively effective deterrent. To work the only people being sent there should be single males with no documentation who we know have tried, and failed, to claim asylum in other countries, if we're swapping those with real refugees already assessed in Rwanda then surely that's a win win for those that matter?

Agreed Delbs.

Not that it will happen, but even if it did, I've read that initially the Rwandans have agreed to initially take 200. Figures show that 45,755 crossed by small boat last year, so those 200 is a not even two day's worth. So even if it did happen, clearly it's not a genuine attempt to solve the problem. It's just another load of old b*llocks, meant to fool those who would see an email from a Nigerian prince as a business opportunity. But if it stirs up the sentiments and hopes of their remaining die-hards then at least the Tories will think it's been worth the £140 million of our money, that the UK government have already given to the Rwandans.

As I posted though mate, it could serve as a deterrent, certainly to those who have no legitimate claim to be here and are clogging up the system on a lie........

I think they will send some very specifically chosen individuals such as single male adults from places that are high volume 'shippers' who have little likelihood of being accepted as refugees here.

The policy is basically a straightforward copy of the Australian one which was also called, "Stop the Boats".

In terms of the deterrent effect, the number of boats that came in March was nearly 80% lower than last year. That could simply be a coincidence, a product of the weather, or whatever but those have been the numbers.
