other than the top two fights, doesn't exactly set the pulse racing, but again I know little of "lesser" known fighters...

Rosas Jr is that wonderboy who turned pro for the UFC before his 18th. Be interesting to see if his career trajectory will stay intact or not. Holland is a bit of a gatekeeper, can’t see him troubling the very best. Don’t know the others.

I’m going with Izzy to regain his belt and Burns ought to clobber Masvidal.

Actually, I have no idea who wins the title. I think Izzy should have enough experience in the octagon vs Pereira the job done. He seemed to have the edge in the grappling phases, so if he’s smart, that’ll be his gameplan - get Alex to the mat and wear him down and maybe look for a tko.

But that said, there’s no getting away from the fact Pereira is one of the scariest human beings on earth. He’s a true light heavyweight that wouldn’t look out of place among the heavies, with a face straight out of an 80s slasher movie.

Pereira expected to weigh close to 220lbs tonight - that’s approximately 17 litres of water mass assimilated in less than 48 hours. Weight cuts in MMA are just mental.

So what’s next? Another rematch? I’ve got a suspicion that they’ll make one or both of them fight someone else first, possibly Khamzat or Du Plessis. It probably is time for Pereira to build up his mma resume a bit, TBH.

Masvidal has aged over the last 4 years and it showed. I've been a fan since the Kimbo slice days.

Stayed off social media and avoided the results all weekend and just watched the card back.

Izzy is a genius.

In the first round of their previous fight, Izzy set up that overhand off the cage but the bell saved Pereira.

This time Izzy finished him off beautifully.

Fight IQ is so important at elite level. As Rosas Jr learnt this weekend.

Burns-Masvidal was predictable but a decent enough scrap. Jorge should probably retire now, whilst Burns has earned a title shot IMO, although I think he’d fall short against Edwards.

I would feed Khamzat to Adesanya now. That one would be chaos.

I’m quite interested in that one, would be Allen’s biggest scalp, albeit with Max probably declining now. Clay Guida, though - that guy’s fought a LOT.

Very tough fight for Arnold Allen especially over 5 rounds, hope he wins but I think Holloway will be to much for him

Agreed, I think Holloway takes this via smarter boxing, but Allen's energy and flurrying is very impressive.

A person with knowledge of the situation confirmed to MMA Fighting the removal of the pivotal lightweight matchup from its co-headlining spot on the pay-per-view main card of UFC 288 due to an injury to Oliveira.

Charles Oliveira vs. Beneil Dariush rebooked for UFC 289 co-main event


A pivotal lightweight matchup between Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush is now set for UFC 289 in Canada.

UFC President Dana White on Thursday confirmed the lightweight fight, once scheduled to co-headline UFC 288, will now serve as the co-main event for UFC 289, which takes place June 10 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.

UFC 289 is headlined by a trilogy between two-division champ Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena, who hopes to recapture the bantamweight title she wrested from Nunes this past year before losing a rematch.

Belal Muhammad vs. Gilbert Burns set to co-headline UFC 288 in 5-round fight

UFC 288 has booked a new co-headliner as welterweight standouts Belal Muhammad and Gilbert Burns face off over five rounds.

UFC President Dana White made the booking official during a special announcement carried on the promotion’s YouTube channel. UFC 288 takes place May 6 at Prudential Center in New Jersey and is headlined by a bantamweight title fight between champ Aljamain Sterling and ex-champ Henry Cejudo. The main card airs live on ESPN+ pay-per-view.
