Now he can go travelling on buses &
Reading the graffiti about slashed seat affairs
for free 😁

In my humble, the greatest wordsmith this country has ever produced. Lyrics that soundtrack my life.

Many Happy Returns

Here’s one of my (many) favourites

Love The Jam & Weller

A very underrated song writer, not sure anyone has ever captured ordinary life so well in songs

I remember as a kid in the mid 80’s getting buses to school and the seats covered in graffiti and all torn and ripped with the usual messages of I love so & so or so and so was here, or if you want sex ring this number etc etc

Every time I hear those lyrics reminds me of the bus ride to school

'Spring, Summer , Autumn'

A Style Council B side - for my money they tucked a lot of their real gems away on the B side of hit singles.

Weller has been such an influence on me since the late 70s so Happy Birthday Paul - thanks for the music, thanks for everything

Happy Birthday Paul. Thanks for enriching my life beyond words, not just for the music you've made, but for many of the things / people you've name checked along the way.

This has always been one of my faves, off of the Wildwood LP

Wow, Weller turning 65 does sound a bit mad.

He has written and recorded so many wonderful tracks, for so many years.

The excitement and anticipation of buying those Jam singles on the day of release...

He is up there with the very best. Icon ? Legend ? To me absolutely

This is a cracking version of a stunning song:

His crowning achievement was being the subject of my favourite Viz letter ever.

Remember sneaking a listen of Sound Affects LP when I was a nipper and it blew me away.

Remember getting a bargain-bin cassette of Café Bleu and it blew me away and changed my attitude to music enormously.

Remember getting a CD of Wild Wood in a post-rave haze and it blew me away with it's gentle tunes and heartfelt lyrics.

He's a songwriting colossus who maintained incredibly high standards throughout a prolific career and should be lauded more as this countries premier bard. He's up there with the best of them all and we'll miss him when he's gone.

"Cause I hate you, and your wife, and if i get the chance I'll f*** up your life". Brilliant.

Love every song on this album. Probably my favourite Jam record.

Oh yes.
I would have been 14 years old and in what was in those days, the 3rd Year at Secondary School when Going Underground went straight to No.1 in the singles chart. I remember being so excited going into school on the Monday after so we could all talk about how we’d helped The Jam get their first No.1. In those days getting to the top of the charts was a big deal and we celebrated The Jam getting there like West Ham winning.
As it happens only a few weeks later we were celebrating the FA Cup win vs Arsenal.
Happy Days

Same here- fifth form at the time and jumped on a bus to Chatham at lunchtime to pick up a few copies we had pre-ordered.

Mine still has a little orange sticker on the cover from the Longplayer record shop with my name on it
