Will be interesting to see how Tongue does tomorrow, I've followed him for a while now and he is a fairly decent wildcard for something special if we pick up an injury against the Aussies.

England XI to face Ireland: Ben Duckett, Zak Crawley, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (capt), Jonny Bairstow (wkt), Stuart Broad, Matthew Potts, Josh Tongue, Jack Leach

I'll be there on Friday and Saturday. Had to give up Sunday as the wife wasn't overly impressed with 3 days of cricket followed by 4 days in Prague!

I know nothing about the new guy, is he quick? Or Anderson sort of pace and seam the ball on English wickets?

Tall and powerful, right-arm medium fast.

He's slightly slower than Wood who I think is now on a more serious standby if Jimmy or Robinson's injuries are worse than reported. Let's hope not.

He trapped Smith lbw earlier in the month and took match figures of 8-153 against Sri Lanka A earlier this year.

Going tomorrow, lucky me! Hopefully a big crowd with it being half-term and the Ashes warm up.

Chose day 1 tickets as don't see it going further than day 3.

Interested to see Matty Potts again too, as he's not played since last summer. Unsure why he didn't play last winter, but good to see him back on the team sheet.

International summer test cricket is back. West Ham are in a final and we get to see Chesney Hawkes at the fan park.

What a time to be alive!

Looking forward to seeing Bairstow back in action, hopefully he comes out in the same form as he was before the injury.

First day of summer it is then. Proper cricket, I hope Ireland give a decent account of themselves.

Big Irish Gits?

I know they can't leaveBairstow out, but, I may be wrong, I'd want a specialist keeper for the Ashes. Foulkes is no rabbit with the bat, I'd have JB open.

Bairstow has always kept wicket for Yorkshire. I don't buy that he isn't a specialist keeper. He just isn't in the top 3 worldwide (which you could argue Foakes is).

Potts is looking nice and solid, does most of the times I see him to be honest. I definitely see him becoming a long-term solution.

Bairstow's a very good keeper. I would also say that I think they are worried about Stokes being able to bowl this summer. It may be that they end up dropping Crawley (or one of the batters) and bringing Curran or Woakes in at 7 to cover the bowling shortfall. In that instance, Bairstow is a much better bet at 6 than Foakes.

Shame for Foakes though.

I get all that, and I shouldn't have used the term 'specialist' where top class was more appropriate [Though to be fair, do you have to be a specialist at anything except talking bollax, to make the current Yorkshire team?? 😊]
I just think a great keeper will save you 10 runs+
per innings, and a great stumping
may well save a lot more.

Quality from Broad again. Another fifer for the collection.

Another one in the Foakes is very unlucky camp to miss out.

Worst thing for England Crawley making a 50 (aided by some very lucky shots)

That's him nailed on for at least the first 3 tests now. :angryred:

That's a fair point and I think that they'd be removing Leach and relying on Root to hold an end before they dropped a batsman, but will be interesting to see if Stokes bowls any overs in Ireland's second innings.

The good thing for this 2023 England squad is that we have some very good options, even with injuries. :newthumb:

Ton up for Duckett, some absolute garbage bowled by Ireland this morning, don't seem to have a plan at all.

Time for England to go big and win this by a innings and some change.
