Have you ever been up to Rockfield, near Portmahomack? Went there last summer and had this bird app … cormorants, oystercatchers, curlew song filled the air most days. Along with dolphins swimming towards Portrose … which is also a great place for spotting dolphins too.The Old Man of Storr wrote: ↑Sun May 28, 2023 5:52 pm I don't possess a smartphone but Jen does - she found this app on her phone that recognises birdsong and will tell you which birds are singing at any particular time by highlighting them in yellow - been sitting down the garden with it this afternoon .
Eurasian Collared Dove
House Sparrow
Willow Warbler
Goldcrest
European Goldfinch
Eurasian Wren
The App is called Merlin - absolutely fascinating .
Less stressful than watching the footie .

Re: Little things in life that make you smile
On the register at work today & a little old lady, aged about 80, was standing there while Murphy put her food into bags.
I ask her "What's the best concert you ever went to?". She pauses & thinks for a while then says "Probably the Beatles", which had both me & Murphy in stitches because of the casual off hand way she said it.
I asked a 30 year old woman a few minutes later & the answer was "Jonas Brothers".
Different eras & all that, innit

It's funny you should mention Portmahomack , Pablo -pablo jaye wrote: ↑Mon May 29, 2023 11:31 pm Have you ever been up to Rockfield, near Portmahomack? Four days after being told the results of my biopsy we went on a 4 day holiday to Sutherland , Embo near Dornoch - and from the beach at Embo I could see this flashing light coming from a lighthouse miles away on the opposite peninsula - I looked it up on the net and discovered it was a place called......Portmahomack . No , we've never been there - Driven past the turn off many a time past Tain on the road up to Dornoch etc [ A9 ] but never explored that particular area . It's on the list though .
Decided to do a bit of weeding yesterday out in the sun - Jen brought out a drink for me and we sat up on the steps leading down to the house taking a break - the app showed a Bullfinch , Goldcrest and an Eurasian Skylark were singing away - the Goldcrest was right above us . I now know what a Goldcrest sounds like .

Teaching my son “I’m forever blowing bubbles”, he can only say “bubbles” and “sky” so far but likes to shout them in the right place and is learning new words every day.

When an completely left-field opportunity lands in your lap that is nothing like anything I've done before for a living, but something I totally enjoy doing for pleasure.

Yep, a very underrated bar that goes under the confectionery radar...dasnutnock3 wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 9:34 pm Star bars, out of the fridge. A top, top chocolate bar.

Re: Little things in life that make you smile
I work in the service industry and I started learning my trade at 18 and it took til I was 23 to be 'qualified' and that included lots of theory and practical training/exams.
The company I joined last year (biggest mistake of my life btw) is a company of blaggers. It took just a few days of being there to realise they didn't have a clue and that I was the only one at the company with any experience.
They think you can just do things off the cuff, employ people with zero knowledge, zero ability and zero enthusiasm for the job, throw them out into the big wide world and expect to work out.
In the last few weeks the new blokes they've brought in have been a disaster and are costing the firm a fortune with their mistakes.
I warned them last summer not to take risks with unqualified numpties, and now it's all starting to unravel.
I'm just sitting back with a big soppy grin on my boat, and as soon as something else comes up, I'm off.

Nah, I had more money than I knew what to do with from my last foray in to Only Fans. Stoma porn is something elsechelmsfordhammer91 wrote: ↑Wed May 31, 2023 1:36 pm If this is another OnlyFans attempt....

Anyway - 'tis now confirmed - I'm going to be a grill chef and cook in my friends new bistro/eatery/bar type thingy that she is opening in a couple of weeks - plus she wants to draw on my experience of running my own business with a view of just letting me get on with it so she can be totally hands off and focus on her other two establishments.
I know it's going to be hard work, but I'm more than up for the challenge.

Fry’s chocolate cream? Damn, they were good - are they even still made? Or, like the Texan, were they taken off sale because people were enjoying them?
