Flop of the season
Some huge money was spent on players in 22-23 yet many of them have seemingly got away relatively scot-free despite delivering very little. Who would you class as worst signing of the season.
Antony at Man Utd cost £85 mill but rarely looked to me like a player that was worth half that figure.
Enzo Fernandez came into Chelsea at over £100 mill and they actually got worse.
Richarlison was £50 mill at Tottenham but scored as many goals as Sam Surridge.
Cucarella has been pulled apart on and off the pitch and also must be up there.

Re: Flop of the season
Some of the figures - especially the ones paid by Chelsea - look ridiculous in hindsight.
Almost surreal the amount of money they spent after they'd also splashed out in terms of purchase of the club itself.

Re: Flop of the season
Attacking players can always flop, especially after changing leagues.
Cucurella was the biggest surprise to me. Looked a world-beater at Brighton and even had the same manager for most of the season, but was absolutely awful throughout. Baffling.

Fofana was £75 mill.
Sterling around £50 mill.
You could probably make a Chelsea XI on its own.
I guess the question there is was it ownership and managerial turmoil that contributed to their decline or were the players they splashed out on just not that good.

Re: Flop of the season
Pep and Man City played a blinder; did their FFP tally no end of good, by getting big fees for several players.
Chelsea, too, would have paid 2-3 times what City were able to pay for Haaland.

Re: Flop of the season
Feel like it's Antony or Cucurella. For the prices paid in those positions you really need to be hitting the ground running and transform that area of the pitch for the team.
Nunez gets away with it just about as I think he had a couple of injuries just as he was looking more comfortable.

Re: Flop of the season
Forest supposedly paid 10.4 million for a year of his services, a grand return of 927 minutes of Premier League football, so effectively a million a game, yielding 0 goals and 0 assists. Though he did score 2 and assist 2 in the EFL cup, one each against Blackburn and Spurs respectively.
Got to be free transfer flop of the season.

Re: Flop of the season
This needs to be split into two separate categories.
1. Chelsea
2. Everyone Else
Otherwise it will basically be Chelseas squad list and nobody else will get a look in

Flop: fall, move, or hang in a loose and ungainly way.
That would be Antonio.
Ings must be in with a shout 7.5 million a goal plus wages.

Re: Flop of the season
9 league goals probably keeps him out of the reckoning given his age and first season in the league. Plus a couple of injuries/sent off at less than ideal times. One Peter Butler wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2023 10:28 pm Nunez.
To think was billed as the Nunez v Haaland season.
