The thing about this whole gentleman’s agreement suggests an arrangement between two gentleman. I can accept Rice being one but a pornographer no way.

They rejected him and it hurt him. It’s quite possible that the rejection he felt is a large part of what propelled him to prove them wrong. By all accounts his ol’ man hates them.
Not true I’m afraid.

If it is Chelsea that he really wants then he might stay with us next season to see whether they qualify for 24/25 Champions League.

Many years from now:-

So Uncle Kalvin, show me your football medals
Well there's this one, from the Champions league final in 2023.
Wow, Did you play in THAT game.
Yes, I came on when we were 3-0 up with 10 minutes to go.
What are those other medals?
They're the League Title, The FA cup.
Wow, you must have been a very good footballer, how come non of my City mates have ever heard of you?
It was a squad game.

EDIT. This aint a shot at the lad(Phillips) by the way

Do you think Phillips backed himself to break into their first eleven, or was he going for the money and trophies, knowing he probably wouldn't play much?

It's an all too familiar story, isn't it, and one of the reasons why Declan probably favours a move to Arsenal, a team a step up from us, but a step down from Man City.

He's still young enough to make another step up from Arsenal eventually, if that's where he is going of course.

Wasn't it also the case of Leeds refusing to do business with the Red Mancs and Phillips both understanding and agreeing with that?

If Phillips is actually interested in football, he probably needs to get out before going down the Drinkwater route.

This is a general point, but playing for City these days is too easy. Winning a trophy with West Ham or whisper it very quietly, winning the league with Arsenal is a better achievement considering the dominance City have had over the last 5 years imo.

For all Manchester City's apparent dominance, they still haven't won the Europa Conference League.

I expect if Rice goes Arsenal (or Chelsea) he won't sign a longer contract than 4 years.
That gives him plenty of leeway to move on again in as little as two seasons time if Arsenal are not challenging

Having watched a few vids from the last couple of days particularly the way he was singing and encouraging us when singing the one more year song at the trophy parade and the uncut BT coverage of the same song along with the recent interview comments, I am very encouraged.

My take is the conversation went well in Prague and heard what he wanted to hear. Add in to this Sully’s little episode and his need to seem relevant I am even more convinced DK takeover is imminent and as soon as DS is gone Rice will sign.

To be fair to Man City they tend to let their players go for reasonable fees when they're not getting games, unlike Chelsea who horde players and demand ridiculous fees for their cast offs.

The likes of Adam Johnson, Scott Sinclair, even Jesus and Zinchenko were allowed to leave for first team football.

Compare that to Drinkwater, Bakayoko, even Victor Moses who just joined the loan brigade.

I think he'll settle for a 5 year contract meaning he can probably move after 3 years, when he's 27 at his prime. Maybe he sees arsenal as part of his journey and not his ultimate destination

If Sullivan came out and said what he said, then immediately dropped a two year extension on Rice's head I'd have said it's a good tactic.

We want to keep you, but we can't justify when your contract is running down so sign the thing.
