Virgin Media alternative help required

Post by ILoveWHU »

Hi
I have some fairly bad medical issues. I live in a Sanctuary housing association property. I am currently recovering from having yet more major surgery and this morning Sanctuary told me they were going to move me into a ground floor property - next Thursday June 16.

I currently live in the upstairs flat of a 1 up 1 down property and will be moved into the downstairs flat below me. No complaints as they have totally refurbished the flat below me :)

But here is my problem. I have been with Virgin for over 20 years and have my phone, tv and broadband through Virgin.
M250 fibre broadband, Full House TV (so with BT Sports and Sky Sports bundle) and Talk More Anytime phone. While my move is literally from the upstairs flat to the downstairs flat, the earliest Virgin can reconnect is June 27.

My medical problems require that I have an on call alarm connected to my phone 24/7.

So to stay with Virgin would mean being without my phone, tv and broadband services for 12 days! So it seems my only alternative is to change supplier/s.

So can any of you kind folks park your euphoria for a few moments (hard as that may be because I'm still euphoric lol) and give me some guidance as to what my best alternative/s are to replace Virgin with something fairly similar to what I currently have?

Sorry to hear about your issues, I hope the last couple of days provided a bit of diversion.

Regarding Virgin, to be honest I'd say your best bet is to escalate it with them. Emphasise your medical problems and go as high as you can until you get a result. There's no guarantee a new provider will be any quicker getting things installed.

I went to their terminations who understood then put men back with their movers department. That guy seemed very pleased to offer me £40 off per month (though there would be a £35 moving fee). He didn't seem to get that the reconnection date was key. He said they can't disconnect and reconnect on the same day and that the move was a 2 man job so stood firm on June 27.

Oh and for good measure he said there was a 30 day termination period and they now have my forwarding address should they need to chase me for early termination.

F***ing asshole in over 20 years with them I have never missed a payment due date. :x

Have you got a friend/family that would be willing to set a new account for you in their name as a new customer (if you're not still in in contract so you don't get early termination fees?)

That may be your best option to getting a quicker install. It worked when my daughter moved house - the disconnection and connection had a long lead time like yourself, so her mum took out a contract at her new address in her name as a new customer, and my daughter terminated hers - there was a slight overlap because of the 30 days, but it only took a week from date of order to get the 'new' services installed in the new property.
