This should be the plan. Newman & co have ahead enough time to draw up a list with Europa league football and a list without.

We now need to move on our targets and capitalise on the sex appeal that our club has currently having just won a european trophy

Being linked to Castellanos again.

13 goals in 35 games for Girona this season, albeit 4 came in one game against Real Madrid.

10 of those goals came in the 18 games he played post-World Cup.

Doesn't look like a Moyes striker on the face of it.

Assume it's a Newman link.

I can see us leaving RB but hope we bring in walker-peters at LB to compete with emerson and one more year of club captain cresswell.
Agree with most of your post but swear you’ve bern told Tammy done his ACL last week and that KWP is a right back not a left back multiple times.

funky chicken wrote: Sat Jun 10, 2023 7:08 am We need to remember that the European competition we’re in next season is more difficult to win. So to achieve European football for a 4th successive season we quite possibly need to finish in the top 7. So we need to make sure by the end of this transfer window we have a squad good enough to compete for the top 7 in the league, as we did prior to last season.
Is it the 2024/25 season where the champions league is revamped (sounds a terrible new format) and as a result we get 5 places? If so I assume that means 8th will likely qualify for European football in the upcoming season?

He doesn't read other people's posts, he's been told about Abraham and corrected on the spelling of Awoniyi at least 5 times.

Maybe Paqueta could put in a good word!

A lot of work to be done if we are losing Mic, Scam and Dec. Lanzini is gone and not sure what the situation is with Ben and Coventry.

What’s the likelihood of Antonio leaving/staying?

Think it’s a Newman/Man City link resurfacing. I wouldn’t pay too much attention, unless we’re sorting an Antonio replacement before a Scamacca one…

Do you think Michail is leaving this summer, EVH? Or is that just your opinion?

I’d imagine a lot depends on Scamacca, as I don’t think we’d want to let both leave. Although tbh I doubt Antonio will find anyone willing to match the wages we are paying him, so even if he was considering his options I’m not sure he’ll find a better one than staying put.

If we end up selling Scamacca and giving up on possession based football (not my preference), then I’d keep Antonio and try to get Broja on a season long loan with an option to buy, assuming he will be back in time for a full pre season following his ACL.

A few alternate views on current comments / rumours.

1. ESR could be coming in as the Lanzini replacement and not the left winger.
2. Barnes still comes in to compete with Benrahama
3. We still bring in a LB with Cress becoming the Aguard LCB understudy (or the Dawson replacement)

Cresswell is not a CB in a 4. We need a RCB if Kehrer isn't the answer. And possibly one to cover Aguerd if Ogbonna isn't extended

I think we should actively be looking to shift him on.

He was trying to force a move in January (apparently) & He has been fined for his podcast activity. He is a future disruption waiting to happen.

Whilst this has been arguably his best season for us, i would still like a handshake and a good luck in your future career, parting of the ways.

Yeah agreed, what i was (badly) trying to say was there is room for a younger LB to come in, utilising Cress as a LCB in a 5, and in extremis the 5th CB for emergency cover (the Dawson position in the squad).

Just my opinion. I’d say it’s 50/50 he’s gone. From what I’ve heard, Scamacca is 100% already out of the door.

Pretty much every Declan Rice story this morning is running with the ‘West Ham want Smith Rowe’ bit.

I can’t see where he fits - think we’d get murdered through the middle with him, Paqueta and another.

Also think that Arsenal would massively over value him, and wouldn’t discount for his injury history (which would be a big concern).

Could see Moyes wanting to turn him into our left sided starter - but would presume that would mean not going for Harvey Barnes or Jack Harrison.

Wondering if it’s stalling tactics and we’re not really keen but want to flush out other player swap bids.

Why? I doubt we'll get much money for him and it's foolish to sell both Scamacca (who is sadly by all accounts gone) and Antonio.

The perfect world is we bring in a 24ish year old who takes over from Antonio but Antonio is still there for Cup games, impact off the bench and helping the new guy adapt to the league (assuming a similar style of play.)

I honestly worry for us if we lose Antonio and both our signings are poor, we'd be screwed.

I'd be tempted to sign Gyokeres who will be quite cheap because of his contract but keep Antonio or sign a cheap experienced option like Rodrigo.

Assuming Rice Lanzini and Coventry depart we are looking at 21 players who’d be registered in the PL squad. You can name up to 25, 8 have to be “ home grown”, maximum 17 “ foreign” and under 21’s like Potts and Mubama don’t count as they go on a separate list but do need registration to play first team football.
We’d have just 7 “ home grown” in Cresswell Downes, Bowen, Antonio, Johnson, Anyang & Ings
14 “ Foreign” in Fabianski, Areola, Coufal, Kehrer, Zouma, Aguerd, Emerson, Ogbonna, Paqueta, Soucek, Cornet, Benrahma, Scamacca & Fornals.
So we can sign 4 more to fill the squad, one of those has to be “ home grown”, obviously further departures change that, and if Antonio and Johnson were to go we’d need to be pretty focussed on the “ home grown” front.
Fun speculating but until the departures are confirmed and the club decides who many they want / can afford in the squad it’s pretty fluid.
