Re: What are you playing right now?
I had enough of Fallout 4. Finished the main quest, did Far Harbour, then kind of speed ran Nuka World by killing the bloke as soon as you finish the pit fight with the water pistol. That led me to killing some people who obviously I was never introduced to, then getting thanks by some woman at a market for getting rid of the raider gangs. I think I ****ed it up a bit tbh.
Anyway, finally, I bought Cyberpunk (Ultimate edition, for £25). Done about 5 hours on it, completing the first chapter(?) then the game crashed as I completed the interlude bit with the Keanu character. I'll pick it up again on Monday. So far, so good. I'm only playing it on a 10.1inch tablet screen, so really need to rig it up to one of the TVs.

Re: What are you playing right now?
I restarted F4 again recently, upon the PS5 update release.
After an hour or so (much of which was spent in character creation), the realisation of the hundreds of hours it'd require to complete slowly sank in... and I've not been back since.
Manor Lords continues to fill the spare hours. Then I'm going to have a nose at (the recently updated and improved) Starfield.

Re: What are you playing right now?
I get this every time I attempt to replay a game like this. Seems exciting during the first hour roughly, then when things open up and you are free to go as you will the understanding of how much time it will take to get to the interesting parts and how few shortcuts are actually available to you, kill the momentum.Up the Junction wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2024 7:45 pm After an hour or so (much of which was spent in character creation), the realisation of the hundreds of hours it'd require to complete slowly sank in... and I've not been back since.
Starfield died for me in much the same way and that was without even playing through it. Game opens up, you see the scale and size of what is available to explore, play a few repetitive, non descript missions and suddenly the idea of sinking days worth of time into it seems a bit pointless.
Quite possible that Bethesda's format is just a bit tired also.

I don't know how anyone can find the time to play these sprawling sandbox games. They take forever to get going, and it's not very clear how much progress is being made. Give me a linear game with a start, middle and ending any day.

I'm playing Cricket 24 at the moment. Hard but enjoyable.

Re: What are you playing right now?
Guess I stopped playing sports games around the 16-bit era. John Madden, various golf games, Track & Field etc. Never really got on with Fifa & other footy games, dunno why - found them more annoying than fun TBH.
I like 8/16-bit arcade stuff, and on modern platforms, linear FPS & third person shooters (gears of war, max payne) and kart racing games in the main. Other stuff too, of course, but I've got no time for nonlinear games or online stuff.

Re: What are you playing right now?
They were good when I was a kid (under 25) with all the free time in the world and the ability to stay up till 2am and still function the next day. The sense of exploration and freedom was good.dasnutnock3 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2024 8:00 am I don't know how anyone can find the time to play these sprawling sandbox games.
Now, with how large and complex they've become, they do just seem like a chore that I don't have the time or disposition to endure. They also just seem tired and unimaginative now. Spliced together generic paint by numbers corporate affairs.

Re: What are you playing right now?
Gone back to The Last Epoch - new patch and new cycle.
I'm loving it. I feel it is better than diablo 4 and I probably won't go back. I love the nemisis idea and so far it's given me some great drops. I got to level 20 in one sitting amd am on chapter 3 of teh story already.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
Controls are a bit clunky and does a weird thing where if you select HDR, you can’t alter brightness or contrast and can be a bit dark.
Good fun to play with a big map and good balance of combat and exploration

Agreed, I started FO4 again and only got a few hours in before binning it off. I just don’t have the time I used to in my teens/20s.fjthegrey wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2024 4:05 pm They were good when I was a kid (under 25) with all the free time in the world and the ability to stay up till 2am and still function the next day. I’m lucky to get on once maybe twice a week for an hour or 2 to play some Warzone with friends

The Last Epoch - level 50 now with my home brew build - not perfect by a long way but easy and exciting to play.

Re: What are you playing right now?
Cheating a bit as I'm waiting for it to (re)download (on a farmer's web infrastructure) but I'm going to stick my nose into Day's Gone when I've a bit of time next.
The genre not usually my cup of tea, but intrigued to see if it can be.

Re: What are you playing right now?
So after 75 hours of coasting through the base game, reaching level 155 and just stopping short of the Maliketh boss fight I entered the lands of shadow in the Elden Ring DLC.
And yes, after wandering around for exactly 5 minutes I found myself shredded by a sub boss who was very familiar to both look and name of a classic superhero who has just made a big comeback just this week…. coincidental?
Everything here is meaner and on steroids, and what’s worse is no matter what level you are the DLC scales with.
But there is hope in scadutree fragments (I think that’s what they are called) which are needed to be collected to make any kind of difference. They are what will swing the game in your favor, as they increase your damage output and decrease damage received.
The more you have the better your advantage, though some bosses I’ve met so far (Rellana) have attacks that can absolutely obliterate your vigor in an instant.
I’m out of my league but I’m loving it.

Re: What are you playing right now?
The Last Epoch - level 60 void knight hybrid.
I came up against a mini boss and couldn't kill here. I thought that this was it with my build, but I had a break, thought on it, come up with a switch of kit and a bit for forging then went back yesterday and smashed her first try.
This lead to an uber boss - Logar - and you have to be dexterous to avoid attacks and duck blows. I failed the first 5 times but when I got into the swing of things, my build beat it easy.
Now moving on to different time epochs in the hope of getting better gear.

Re: What are you playing right now?
Sill the Last Epoch. Level 70 now. Still enjoying the game.
I won't be going backm to Diablo. Why?
Crafting Forging is much easier and you can do it on the fly (in a dungeon for instance.)
The end bosses are tough but doable. I can do a level 70 boss being a level 70 character. In Diablo, unless you have a specific build, you can't. I have a home brew build that is doing really well, an it's really satisfying creating something yourself and not having to resort to copying builds from the internet.
There's a lot more end game content - game run guilds, multi level dungeons, epochs.
