Season Four finale of The Boys.
There's little doubt the story has taken a dip this season and the new characters are little more than shallow parodies (Firecracker).
It just doesn’t make sense in some areas, particularly the actions of Neumann throughout the show and come to think of it, even Butcher in that finale. It seems to tie itself in knots when the shoes are velcro.
I’ve loved the last three seasons but this did not hit like the others. There were some top moments and there’s plenty of over the top thrills and spills but the plot has not been stellar.
Well, we won’t know if there’s a payoff until 2026 when that fifth and final season hits.
I really enjoyed it. Desperate people doing desperate things would be the tag line for me. Well set up for the final season and will be interesting to see what they do with Gen V.
And any episode which ends with Heartshaped Box by Nirvana will get my vote.

Could have been better .
Not watching too much TV just now [ on holiday ] but we are watching films at night , one per night -
Went to cinema on Monday - Quiet Day Day One
Tuesday was the boy's choice - The Borderlands - low budget British horror - quite good considering .
Wednesday - The Meg - Mrs hadn't seen it .
I've been rewatching the first season of Better Call Saul. It's a belter of a series, I actually think it's better than Breaking Bad, although I am not sure how much sense it would make to anybody who hadn't watched BB first.
I enjoyed it. Stylistically it's a loving throwback to classic Toho and has a modicum of a story line that has subtext. I like that Godzilla is back to being the baddie. I enjoyed that for a fraction of the cost it looked better than any of the recent Hollywood versions. All that said, it suffered a bit from overhype for me, which I suppose is indicative of just how poor the American versions of the last decade have been.
SPOILER: And when Sumiko received the telegram near the end I did yell **** OFF! That annoyed me more than it should have. The very final, final scene redeemed all that, however.
I expected to like this far more. Maybe watching the dubbed version detracted from it but it was late and I felt lazy. Or maybe I expected to turn into the 10 year old version of myself while I watched it. I used to love watching them on Channel 4 late at night. But one day I suddenly felt they were a bit naff and lost all interest. Same with WWF wrestling, The Simpsons etc.
Watching anything dubbed kills the movie for me. It almost always feels detached from what you’re watching.
Genuinely great foreign language films have some awful dubs. Let The Right One In sticks out. Dreadful.
Godzilla Minus One is a very good film that should be viewed in its native Japanese with subtitles in order to really get the most out of it.

I even watch anime Japanese with subs if at all possible.
Though I will admit that shows like Attack on Titan and the 2001 redub of Akira are pretty solid efforts.
Most of Miyazaki’s stuff is good too.
loads of the Scandi, Euro cop shows etc. come with original language and subs.
brilliant..
problem is that the American audiences won't put up with it in general, and they then make their own versions, which are usually not up to the original...
plus in apartments with neighbours, having subs mean that you can turn down the volume some and still keep up with what's going on...

Agreed and agreed, with the exception of Spaghetti Westerns which, for me, are better dubbed than subtitled.
very, very decent.. I have come to the conclusion that in order to have a successful t.v. series you need
a) good to very good cast
b) good to very good story but you can get by with less than if you have
c) absolutely stunning scenery
think this gets us along with the above, Beyond Paradise, Death in Paradise, Vera, Chelsea Detective, et al.
now of course you can up it with top of the line in all 3 categories and be the dog's for example Endeavour, Morse, Sherlock, et al. but stick with at least the above and you have a very good chance of being renewed every season..
not that I'm complaining at all. in fact far from it....
A Guy Ritchie Film, but don't let that put you off.
It's based on a true story about a group of commandos in WW2 who embark on a covert and strictly illegal mission to scupper supplies to German U-Boats. The main character was, apparently, the inspiration for Iain Flemming's James Bond.
It's a great film, plenty of action and a really good story. The best action film I have seen in a while.
I have just ordered the book of the same name, which is a factual account written by Giles Milton
Watched A Quiet Place: Day One. I expected something different but after a short while it was just more of the same. The cat was definitely the star of the film and has a big future.
Also watched The Terrifier (love Art the Clown) and then last night another episode of season 2 of 'Them'. Not seen it mentioned on here ever but it's a really good show. Season 1 had its flaws but season 2 so far is an improvement.

Nearly finished S2 of The Bear
The Christmas episode was so intense, I thought I would have to turn it off.
It is brilliant television though. Some of the cameo appearances have been genius.
3 seasons and still going strong - it's peak television in 2024.

The kills are gory and spectacular, but the first Terrifier is absolute garbage.
The sequel is a better film but still lacks the charm or charisma of the classic 80's slashers it desperately tries to emulate.
