Little things that irritate you

Anything goes in The Snug, General Discussion's rebellious little brother. An off-topic den of iniquity where any subject not covered elsewhere may be discussed. Well, anything except golf, Star Wars and Arsenal.

I hear you, its not something I would do. But

When you apply for hundreds of jobs and bearly hear back from 5% of them... what goes around comes around.

In the middle of a big parkland area close to where I live we have a fenced dog park. It’s free and dogs can roam and play with other dogs. Outside the dog park people are asked to walk their dog on a lead. . .Most people happily oblige, and then there are the exceptions who fall into three categories;

1. Owners who believe they have absolute control of their dog and want the world to know
2. Owners who are craving for someone to challenge them about having their dog off a lead.
3. People who have humanised their ‘fur babies’ and think it barbaric that a child is on a lead.

Feel better for that!

Add to that people who take their dog to the pub. Why? Do you think I need to see your dog?

Being made redundant (despite tonnes of work and being one of if not the highest performers). All to save a few quid on a spreadsheet and do it cheaper.

Our dog loves the pub. Always on a lead, behaves and causes no trouble and we only take her when it's quiet.

Like most people it's a stop off on a walk.

Yep. Could have called to warn you but do you reply to every candidate you don't give an interview to?. Probably not somebody you'd want working for you anyway. Bullet dodged for both of you.

Same…we’ve got a lovely pub that’s about halfway round our regular walk. They welcome dogs, and especially if it’s warm, I sometimes fancy a pint. Don’t see the problem?!

600 miles on French roads today, not a single bit of roadworks. 70 miles home from Folkestone, four different 50mph average speed check sections. We really are an embarrassment of a nation.

The Olympics coverage on BBC. Has it always been like this? Too much bloody talking, half the sports aren't shown and when they do they show a bit of it and turn it on to something else.

I'm sick to death of the swimming too.

Wife and I thought exactly the same. Thought we could press the red button and pick and choose. Nope. Looked it up. It's because Discovery+ bought the rights. (BT SPORT of old)

If you have it, you can select any event you like.

Shame as big events should be available to all.

The BBC's Olympic TV deal and what it means for you

Published
22 July 2024

Since 2018, the way the BBC covers the Olympics has changed a bit.

In order to avoid any confusion when you're sitting down or logging on for the excitement and drama of Paris 2024, we thought it would be a good idea to explain how everything works, why coverage is a bit different and how we are going to ensure you can still enjoy all the big moments with us.
What changed?

In 2015, Warner Brothers Discovery (WBD) bought the European TV rights for the Olympic Games for a reported 1.3bn euros.

Fast forward to Paris 2024, and they can show as much of the action as they want across as many channels as they want.

That, in the UK, was previously something the BBC did - you'll remember we offered online and Red Button feeds of every sport during London 2012.

However, thanks in part to UK law that aims to ensure major events, like the Olympic Games, are widely available, the BBC was able to strike a deal with WBD.
What does that mean for the things I want to watch?

The BBC will have a network TV channel and a second broadcast stream throughout the Games.

That means we can show the two most exciting or important events happening at any moment live at the same time. And because of the way the Olympics schedule works, it means there will almost never be a big medal moment or race or tearful interview we can't bring you.

Since the Winter Olympics in 2018 what's changed is that if you are really into a specific sport that isn't the main story of the day, we may not be able to broadcast it live.

We will still update you on all the stories of the day, but if it's wall-to-wall Greco-Roman Wrestling you’re looking for, then Discovery+ will be the place to watch it.
Why didn't the BBC just pay more to have everything?

Quite simply because we take decisions over our spending very seriously as it is licence fee payers' money that we are using.

As much as we'd like to, we can't buy everything we want.

Despite that, we will have over 250 hours of live coverage, while Olympics Extra - a second curated live stream on BBC iPlayer - will ensure none of the breathtaking moments are missed.

What's more, there will be a special Paris 2024 schedule on BBC Radio 5 live and BBC Sounds, and the ability to catch up with the biggest news stories and medal winning moments on the BBC Sport website and app, and across social media.
How do I find more of the Olympic Games?

Across the Discovery+ app and Eurosport channels in the UK, more than 3,800 hours of live coverage will be aired in total from 07:00 to 22:30 BST each day.

Discovery+ and Eurosport requires a subscription. You can find more information here., external
How long will this arrangement last for?

The deal is in place for the next five Olympic Games - up to and including the 2032 Summer Games in Brisbane.

Went to one place and the guy who was meant to interview me was about 20 minutes late, given that I was about 10 minutes early I was not happy.

He caught me just as I was at the reception handing my pass back, then he invited me back to the office, not much of an explanation. So about 5 minutes into the interview I stood up and told him that I wasn't interested, didn't think that I could get along with him and thanks for wasting my morning.

Unnecessary encroachment.

Sat in an empty work restaurant, must be 100+ seats. A guy I don't know walks over and sits on the table right next to me and starts a video phone call with a women that shriek talks like she is possessed.

Go to the toilet, 6 urinals, all empty. I go for the obvious option of No.6 - furthest away from the sinks. In comes another guy and yep, stands at No.5 to make his piss. :shocker:

I wonder what aftershave I'm wearing today?
