I've no idea mate. Its not been on the road since 1998! Bodywork is fine, Engine looks ok but the insides are a right mess. Needs new seats etc. If you stick the key in it turns over. Thats about as much as i know.

I bought an engine online for my Mrs' Nissan Micra by typing in what I wanted on Google , then somewhere that can get in contact with scrap yards around the country came up , you type in your requirements and the scrappies get in touch with you and you choose the one you want .
I had a whole engine delivered from Dorset to Skye for £500 inc delivery , totally amazing .
There are specialists in doing up classic cars but most mechanics should be able to do what you want ,putting seats etc in.
Sorry I'm not a mechanic , all I know is that cars cost a fortune to upkeep .
Triumph Stags were notorious for dodgy gear boxes so watch out .

Check out the TV prog Wheeler Dealers. They did one up a couple of years back. Can't remember what they did - but I think they made quite a profit

Stags are usually money pits mate, like most Triumph cars. A fella I used to work with used to have a TR6 and spent literally thousands on it. Carbs and electrics were notoriously unreliable.
Must admit, the Stag does sound nice when tuned and running but be warned, its gonna cost.

Stags were notorious for overheating and warping the cylinder heads. Many owners gave up on the Triumph engine and replaced it with the Rover V8.

Re: Any mechanics on Kumb?
I just want somebody who knows what they are doing to give it a once over and tell me how much it will cost to get it back on the road. I know about the engines and this one has the original one in it. It looks in great nick tbf. I messaged a mate earlier who's Dads got a garage so I'm hoping he'll be able to help. It was my Grandads car (god rest his soul) so I'd really like to get it up and running if I could. If it's going to cost a bomb (which I suspect it might) then I'll have to reluctantly sell it.
Thanks for all your replies btw

If it's the interior that needs doing, this lot are by no means cheap but are very good and won't rip you off. They come highly recommended on my Merc forum.

The original engine will spontaneously combust at circa 60,0000miles, FACT.
Re: Any mechanics on Kumb?
You need to be either flushed or pretty well mechanically clued up for classic car ownership because there's always something or another with them.
In the last year I've done the following on mine: Complete rebuild of brake calipers, brake drums, brake master cylinder, clutch master and slave cylinders, strip down and rebuild of carburettor, replace gearbox rear oil seal, renew track rod end ball joint covers, renew track control arm ball joint covers, replace front offside wheel bearing, plus normal maintenance which is much much more than on a modern car. In the near future I need to replace the slip yoke and the differential pinion oil seal.
There's always something along those lines needing doing, it never stops, and unless you're in a position to pay out a fortune for others to do them then you need to be able to do them yourself.
If you're in neither of those positions then you're not suited to classic car ownership.

Re: Any mechanics on Kumb?
To save starting a new thread, does anyone know anything about brake fluid? I need to top mine up and the manual says to use DOT4 ISO 4925 class 6 standard fluids, but all I can find in my local stores here in Switzerland is DOT4 ISO 4925 class 4
Is this ok to use??? I don't want to wreck my brakes, or worse have a nasty crash.

Re: Any mechanics on Kumb?
Need some advice re: a new car.
I'm still in my 14-day grace period and I started to notice a knocking noise. (Long story as to why I hadn't noticed on my test drive) So, took it back and said this needs to be sorted before my 14 days is up. Nothing wrong with that, they have found what it is and will repair it. The thing is, it's the clutch and flywheel that need replacing.
Now, do I cut my losses and say no thank you to the car or would this be the only problem with it? The car is only 2 years old and has 37,000 miles on the clock
