I do not want fascists to rule this country again.

Some would argue it's already happening with many independent British journalists arrested and held under Section 12 of the anti-Terrorist Laws .

Kit Klarenberg , Richard Medhurst and very recently Sarah Wilkinson .

All arrested , held in jail and questioned over their views on Palestine .

By "views on Palestine" you mean, alleged, posting of support for proscribed terrorist groups in the case of Sarah Wilkinson?

Or maybe it was, ironically given the thread you've posted this in, her holocaust denial posts?

The other two I can only see their own reports on their arrests though I could find articles linking both to funding from State Actors (not proven from what I could read but enough doubt for crowd funding sites to suspend them).

It is a fine line between truth seeker and paid propagandist for foreign powers and terrorists it seems.

Probably belongs in the free speech thread.

Ok, hands up , I know absolutely nothing about Mr Klarenberg or Ms Wilkinson - I read up a little on Richard Medhurst .

I caught this on The Grayzone hosted by Max Blumenthal [ American of Jewish descent ] and Aaron Mate [ Canadian ] -

I've just looked up ' Sarah Wilkinson Holocaust Denier ' and found this piece written by her denying it's her Twitter Account -

'' I have been persistently accused of posting anti-semitic tweets written over 5 years ago - it was only discovered they were being created by a parody account which had been running since 2016 of which I had no knowledge of and which I was blocked from -

There were several tweets made by this parody account containing anti-semitic content which were not written by me - the fake account was identical to mine apart from one small letter ' i ' in my name being turned into the letter ' I '....many offending tweets have been saved as screen-shots and are constantly being used to smear my reputation . '

Twitter have since deleted the parody account .

Back on topic.....

'' Volkswagen weighs first-ever German plant closures amid EV transition woes . ''

'' Volkswagen is considering unprecedented factory closures in Germany, setting up a showdown with powerful unions as the country’s most important industry fights for its future.
The potential measures also include trying to end the company’s three-decades-old pact with workers to keep jobs secure, the company said Monday. VW’s main target is its underperforming namesake passenger car brand, the profit margins of which are getting squeezed amid a sputtering transition to EVs and a consumer spending slowdown.

Any shutdowns would mark the first closures in Germany during the company’s 87-year history. VW shares closed 1.3% higher after the news, paring this year’s losses of 13%. ''

Volkswagen simply is an awful run company.
Everybody tries to blame their failings on politics now.

The key, short term, issue is the cost of energy. For decades German industry has enjoyed a subsidy, since Putin invaded Ukraine, it's gone.

It is also true to suggest they are slow to change in some industries but in others they continue to innovate.

There is a growing tendency to blame immigrants for all their woes, but without them, their economy would be in much deeper doo dah. Far worse for them was the cost of reunification with the East.

It had nothing whatsoever to do with Russia invading Ukraine -

Rather , America sabotaging the Nordstream pipelines .

A blatant act of terrorism - the Danes , the Swedes and the Germans should hang their heads in shame .

Interesting argument here...

If the Germans block their nine land borders, and succeed, then neighbouring nations will expect their governments to do the same.

This may mean the French will try to turn back anyone through Spain, Italy, Belgium or Switzerland.

If Germany and France become less porous , the queue to get here should get smaller.

If Ukrainian defences don't hold out and the Russians break through in Pokrovsk it's possible that we may experience up to 4m more Ukrainians heading into Europe via Poland , Hungary , Romania etc .

No wonder the Germans are getting twitchy - Scholz even discussed peace with Russia the other day - things must be getting desperate .

I should hope everyone wants peace.

A major ongoing war in Europe is not a good thing.

Exactly and just about every war ends in a peace deal as well. The key is making sure it suits all parts. Germany has skin in the game with both sides so it makes sense for them to play a lead role.

It is a big feather in the cap for anyone who brings the war to a mutually agreed end.

I've suggested Peace throughout the Russia-Ukraine thread , Sendo

None of it went down well at all .

Everyone wanted Ukraine to carry on fighting - now , after over 2 years of fighting the penny seems to have dropped .
