I had hip surgery last year (not a replacement) and my surgeon told me that the surgery would get me 45% of the way to success but the rest was up to me. So...pretty much what everyone else has said about physical therapy.

and for the rest of us... don't wait until you've had your joint replaced before doing the exercises. Muscle protects the joints from impact and help with stability and support. Strong quads will help protect the knee from impact. Strong glutes for the hips. Don't neglect these things.

Oh I forgot to say, once you've had it done going through security at airports can be a trial, even if you tell them it's your knee setting off the alarm...

Quite, and they never listen when you tell them (and why should they?). So don't bother telling them.
When I first had mine done they issued me with some sort of card to place inside my passport but it was always ignored , I guess they are too easy to forge and any old terrorist could avoid the full body scan thing just by showing something similar.
Just means you have to wait a bit longer whilst your expensive personal belongings are sitting there on the other side unattended waiting for any Tom, Dick or Harry to help themselves.

Great thread.
I’m 53 and had the MRI scans to show how much damage has been done to my knees.
Been told both mine have to be replaced and just waiting for a date from Maidstone Hospital.
Right knee is worst and most painful. Have bone crunching against bone, no cartilage in either knee, the silicon injections never worked properly. Already had 3 lateral releases and clean outs on each knee over the years.

So thanks to athletics - triple jump in particular - I can tell the change in weather better than Michael Fish ever could!

And they said sport is good for you…

The Physio phoned me up today to see how I was getting on - told her the tablets hadn't touched it .

She told me to keep taking them and she'll see me on November 5th - wonder what she has in store for me ?
