Re: England Cricket 2024
To be fair we had glorious weather at Edgbaston for Finals Day on Sunday, but the point very much stands. Should be having these T20 internationals in the middle of the season.
Finals day suffered as a result of the t20 World Cup messing up the early season and the rounders necessitating a huge gap between the group stages and the quarter finals and a week between the quarters and Finals Day itself. Not only were a load of internationals unavailable but the small gap meant lower attendances as many people couldn't get organised for a full day at Edgbaston in the space of a week.
Like having the FA cup final during an international window.... Only cricket would do this. And do the same next year...

Re: England Cricket 2024
Even I'm getting tired of me moaning about the Hundred, but I'd just like to leave it with this..
If you listen to those who advocate it's continuance, they seem to be claiming that it's drawing a lot of people to the game that would otherwise have ignored it:
Well,
1)Leaving aside suggestions that maybe it's a completely different sport, they have(for reasons that have never really been explained) spent a season damaging the game they claim to be attracting people to. Where's the logic in that?
2)Repeating myself here, but the REALLY crazy thing is the most suitable version of the game to be played at the beginning and end of summer is, by its very own nature (and,IMO,the only worthwhile element of i )is the Hundred itself !!
3) I get the women's game arguement, but would argue that they can't learn technique in a ratio that increases as the game shortens. Their game will only develop if there is a concurent increase in the development of the women's long game.
4)If real cricket had had half the investment/hype they've spent on the Hundred,....etc,etc..etc..

Re: England Cricket 2024
Frustrating collapse. 350 or as near to was the requirement and we were more than on our way to it.
Five wickets for about 50 runs in 12 overs or so isn’t good enough at all.

5 balls at Steve Smith and I'm already sick of his arse scratching, pad adjusting, gurning and twitching.

Pace coming on to the bat nicely? You can rely on England to persist with fast bowling. We really are clueless at bowling in white ball cricket!

Travis Head is one streaky batsman.
Bethell gets Green. Need to get a few more quickly.

Re: England Cricket 2024
Handing the 2 wickets to Labuschagne easy as you like was the killer there. 350 odd was on the cards and would've been a difficult chase but the calypso collapso that occurred meant all they need to was knock it about and accellerate when required.

Sitting in the Fred Truman stand. Cloudy with sunny spells here. Quite pleasant. Australia 270 all out in 44.4 overs. Carey was a nuisance.

Re: England Cricket 2024
Smith gets out in a carbon copy of his dismissal in the test at the oval a couple of weeks ago. He was well set and while not likely to win, England were likely to reduce the margin of defeat substantially with him there.
This is a very green one day side in a lot of ways but it doesn’t help that the experienced batsmen are often the ones getting out daftly. To be fair the C&B that got Duckett was an insanely sharp chance and Livingstone’s dismissal was unlucky but 270 was chaseable here.
