True enough.

Wasn't it 'Spitting Image' (may have been 'Whoops Apocolypse') which had Reagan at the Whitehouse desk, overseen by large oil executives at least one of whom was wearing a crucifix?......... :D

[Aside: How much better would if have been for mankind, and more so for the rest of this planet, had the overwhelming bulk of crude oil reserves been at the bottom of the deep ocean instead of beneath some practically deserted sandy wasteland?.....
........certainly,top flight football would be a lot more fun 8-) ]

Obvious problem with that would be that without oil, you can't make plastic, without plastic you can't have bags for life, so by that logic, you have just condemned the planet to a global climate crisis with no way to solve it.

Hope you feel good about that..

English Monarchs used to marry 10 year old girls ....but they didn't get together until the girl ' was of age ' ...probably 12 or 13 back then .

Are we talking Arranged Marriages here , arranged marriages between two 10 year old kids who then meet up again aged 18 ..OR ....' Abdul , 50 marries Aisha , 9 ' ?

Anyway , the law has yet to be passed and maybe it won't .

Only the English? Not the Scottish TOMoS?

It was quite common for nobility to marry off their daughters as soon as they "come of age" back then.

Not sure those methods were available in Tudor or medieval England back then.

Life expectancy was between 33-45 years, at 13 a woman was entering middle age, obviously nobility had it better, Margaret Beaufort lived to be 66. If you wait until your late teens or early twenties before marrying and having children your going to die before your child is able to care for itself.
Thats said childhood as we know it didn't exist in those days, life was unremittingly grim.

Actually, life expectancy as an average in those days was low largely due to the high infant mortality rate. If you lived to adulthood - or at least to your teenaged "child bearing" years, you could reasonably expect to live to older age. Especially for female nobility.

The main driver for starting the child bearing young was so that the woman - or young girl - would have plenty of years to pop out lots of sprogs, in the hope that at least a couple will live to be adults.
