Re: Darts - anyone interested.
Current state of players IMHO
Littler - one of the best in the world, but prone to "spots" of low scoring from time to time - his "unorthadox finishing" when not on D10/D20 might be an issue in the future. Can he continue to throw D20 3 times to finish 120? Time will tell.
Wright - atm he's shot as a darts player. Not a shadow of his former self. need to get his game back or it' senior times for him.
Price - has his moments but not as good as he was. Needs to step up and get his no1 game back to be a contender.
Smith - on his day he's unbeatable but he's prone to temprement and anxiety issues if he is losing. If he gets a sport psych he may get even better.
Cross - another top darts player but is prone to confidence issues. He just has to up his game a few % and he could be top tier.
Humphries - for me one of the best darts players in the world now. Has the ability to beat Littler on any given day. he could get even better.
Gerwen - he's suffered a real loss of form. Dunno what's the matter with him, but his game has took a serious dip and he's not the player he was 10 years ago. Age? He'a also had arm problems.
Aspinall - has the skill to be No1 in the world, but he has temprement problems and needs to keep up the work with his sports coach to progess.
Others -
Heta - has the skill, but needs to get his showmanship under control.
Chisnall - has the skill but is not consistent enough.
Van Den Berg - has the skill but again isn't consitent enough.
Dobey - great player but blows hot and cold.
Ross Smith - a dark horse - my outside tip for the top. Has it all - just has to put it all together.
Josh Rock - temprament issues.
Anderson - has the skill but has age caught up with him?
Wade - same as Anderson - top player but he's not getting any younger.

I'd agree, not that long ago a 100+ average was quite rare. They're all capable these days.
To be fair there are a lot more tournaments and the money involved is something else, too. It's a full time gig for the top 64, without a doubt.

I'd throw Rob Searle and Martin Schindler into that lot too, both seem to be on the up.
Some like Johnny Clayton are ever present, but the competition is so so fierce now that it's harder than ever to break out of the pack.
The difference between the haves and the have nots, is tiny.

Ryan Searle ??? - I really like him and root for him when he's playing. For a man with eyesight problems he throws a mean dart!!!

Ryan Searle, you're quite right
I was listening to Frankie goes to Hollywood - the power of love (Rob Searle trance remix) hence the confusion!

Re: Darts - anyone interested.
the world cup of darts is on now. It finishes to day. England in the last 8 and play NI Sunday - first game up. It will be a tough ask as although we have Smith/Humpries NI have Dolan/Rock, the latter who is smashing in 140's for fun.
There's been some great matches involving underdogs. Bahrain, China, Japan and Gibraltar spring to mind.
if you like darts it's a great watch.

Congatulations to the England darts team of Michael Smith and Luke Humphries on beating Austria in the final of the world cup of darts.
A master class of darts from Humpries, who was more than ably supported by Smith.
England - world champions of Darts 2024

Re: Darts - anyone interested.
Australian Masters - the first round match between littler and Smith was probably the best game of darts i have ever seen.
Unfortunately Littler won. He then stormed through the comp meeting a very out of form Ger Price in the final - who promptly gave littler 8-1 thrashing!
Littler immediately started sulking, gave a very bad interview and sulked off eventually.
A great nights darts - even Peter wright was back on form.
