Yes, I was saying to a good mate that I love Jarrod, and never want him to leave but I wonder if he’s almost ‘too nice’ as a captain.
Sometimes you need a Soucek or Coufal to throw some players up against the wall. Nolan, Dicks.. even Noble wouldn’t have just ‘let things go’ but to change captaincy mid season would be awful. He’d need to relinquish it.

There are different kinds of captain. Bowen is not a 'bawl-you-out-when-going-gets-tough' type, he a 'lead-by-example' type. An England international who is an absolute engine on the pitch and who always conducts himself with professionalism on the pitch and in front of the media. Our more petulant players with their discipline issues could learn from him.

looks to have declined under Lop. I would like a soucek or coufal type as bowen is too nice. bit like dec was too nice. we need a captain to give paqueta a shout and wake AWB up at times. bowen doesnt do that. he is the capt now and to take it away would be a bad mood.

new manager needed to get our lot playing

I think sammyleewasoffside is correct. Bowen is a very specific type of player, exceptional at certain things, very limited with others. As a traditional winger stuck out wide, he's not actually all that great. His success rate is poor when taking players on, passing average, crossing meh, and he doesn't hold onto the ball very well. What he's great at is drifting inside, finding space in the box, and scoring goals. There's a reason klopp was a fan, would have suited his system perfectly. We're really not playing him to his strengths. Stuck out on the wing, Kudus probably is the better player.

It shouldn't be up to one player to 'rally the troops' during the game; there should be 11 players out there taking responsibility and holding each other accountable.

I see nothing in Soucek to suggest he's someone who would throw players against the wall.

In a more general point, if Bowen is not contributing enough so far this season, it is on the managers system and nothing else.

I'll leave what sort of Capt is Jarrod to the Sunday football stereo typing.

Performance wise he's having the same season everyone else is, flat and struggling to get into a rhythm.

He's still our best and most effective player, and as the old adage goes, form in temporary class is permanent so I don't think this slump is going to last for him.

not sure how 100% it is, but an analogy..

the Chicago Bulls were playing for the "World Championship" when Michael Jordan was playing. best player in the planet, maybe even now he would be at least in the top one, as Mr. Clough was fond of saying.

anyway, I'm not sure of the status, but I think the Bulls were ahead maybe 3-1...long time ago so I'm relying on a shakey memory...

he had a temperature of maybe 102 or something....

he's still playing, and after time outs, still the first one back on the floor. didn't need to play that game I'm pretty sure. however, (and I have no clue if he was the throw team mates up against the wall or not) BUT, my belaboured point is..

if Michael Jordan was playing, was the first one off the bench after a coach's talk, and giving it everything, there's absolutely ZERO reason why people who are 100% fit at this stage, shouldn't be out there with him, giving everything they have to win. that's how committed he was to take another ring. he was most definitely a "lead by example" type of player. even half fit he was probably better than most, but were I his team mate at that stage (and they're probably glad I wasn't !!!) I would be "afraid" not to be doing as much as I possibly could, or I could NOT have looked myself in the mirror. luckily at that time I would say his team mates were as committed.

in 'ouston, we have the highest paid left tackle in the league (or thereabout) - gets any kind of knock, he comes off, takes days off, practices (from the feedback that comes over) less than. been penalised more than any other player in the league currently. looks like he's playing half-assed. radio people reckon if he had the drive and commitment of Stroud, Mixon, Diggs we'd be in better shape. last week Stroud came off throwing his helmet he was so frustrated with the OL play. yesterday Mixon did the same as well as kicking a few chairs. again radio people said they imagine that in the OL "room" Tunsil doesn't get in people's face and DEMAND they be better. he comes out with stupid Cantona-esque sayings in the press instead.

to me, Bowen sets the best example. he is what we want in a player. 100% all the time. plays with a knock. still plays as hard as he can. if Paqueta had HALF the drive he has, I have a feeling we'd be in a much better position league wise...

just imvho that is.

Back in the England squad I see.

But only because Palmer and Foden have pulled out (along with six others).

If I was Bowen I'd be tempted to tell the FA to **** off. This does him, nor us, any favours. As soon as the golden boys decide they want to play again they'll be back in and Bowen ****ed off once more.

Palmer deserves it but what has foden down this season , no goals and 1 assist in the league? He bang out of form

Delighted for him. And I’m 100% convinced he’s also happy he’s got the call.

Needs a goal this international break though to show the new manager his worth. And for those saying the usual types will get selected when fit, that’s not how Tuchel operates.

A round pegs in round holes type of manager.

Good for him. He hasn't had an amazing start this season but neither have the likes of Foden.

Hopefully he'll get a game and get that well deserved goal.

Almost certianky Tuchel will be at the training sessions so good opprtimty for Bowen to impress him

Every player starts with a clean sheet under Tuchel as he has no affinity to the U21s and doesn't strike me as someone who will bow to any pressure

Footballers don't think like this though
Bowen will just be delighted to get another call up

Met Danny dyer this evening - nice bloke to be fair.

Forgot to say is there any chance he can get his son in law and the rest of the team to up their game.

He caught me off guard with how chilled he was and happy to chat.

Once again the top teams gaining an advantage. Pull out their players so the England players at the “smaller” clubs get called up who don’t have a squad of 40.

Great opportunity to get some decent minutes and make an impact. Hope Carsley gives him a start in one of the games. It’s hard to make much of an impression in 15 minutes.
