Spot on ! ( thats a quick Hambrosia Stu tribute slipped in)....

Gave it a listen on the first leg of my trip to Villa yesterday, and on the final leg, basically when alone in the car.

Driving music, it ain't. However listen 3 and 4 , quietly at home today , no distractions, no laptop, no telly , just a mug of tea, heating on, and dusk falling.....and your choice is a bone fide, undeniable smash hit !

Like Tomos i detect more than a hint of Neil Young and or a more industrial mid western John Hiatt.

Certainly one to keep on the Spotify playlist.

Retro album of the month

Not sure how often JBB ventures into here , but maybe he can be nominated for your next beneficiary of a fine ear.

That bit in yesterdays game against Villa when Paqueta was surrounded by three defenders and then insouciantly pulled a cheeky blindside backheel out of his taut and perfumed butt? That's what Korea's done here. Making the strenuous appear serene.

It's a rout. A romp. A rollover.

Korea Hammer 18 : 9 Rest of the World

I definitely didn't think through the scoring methodology properly. Or at all.

Thanks to an APB from Monkeybubbles I'm now on full alert, albeit with some trepidation at potentially having to listen to some self obsessed shoegazing multi millionaires bemoaning the lot of musicians Image

I have just scrolled back through 50 pages of JB's posting history, and while I have learned a lot about the Conservative and Unionist Party leadership battle, Israel/Iran, Formula 1, the Assisted Dying Bill and the US Presidential Election, I have not found one single, solitary mention of music.

All I know is that he doesn't like shoegaze.

My blind recommendation for JBB is, therefore, the album I happened to be listening to as I was scrolling through his posts.

What can I say? I found the album on Youtube (I don't have Spotify installed) and gave it my full attention through nice headphones. I was dreading a rap or similar genre album, but was relieved to hear a perfectly acceptable indie-style band. What did I think of it? Well, I'm not the greatest fan of indie-style rock(ish) bands in general but there were a couple of songs (The Ghost and the Black Hat and Bow Down) that I liked, but many of the others merged into one another, possibly because they seemed to be in the same key and tempo. It's not an album I'll be listening to again but it has broadened my horizons.

Right, it's time to point the finger fate at...

drum roll...

fellow guitar thread resident Gaz

thanks for the thread Korea, and thanks (I think  ) to PP for nominating me.

Thank-you JBB. I am still absolutely clueless about what music you like

Funny to think of the Go-Betweens as 'indie'. They were on an independent label, I suppose but I can't see much in common with the sound I associate with that term.

As for Gaz, does he post in the music forum? It's my failure, but as someone who doesn't go into the snug or numb forums, I don't really know who he is.

My musical tastes are varied, but no doubt others will instantly point to common factors. In no particular order Gilmour's Pink Floyd, Mark Knopfler, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Beethoven, Schubert, Rachmaninov, Debussy, Ennio Morricone, even John Williams (the film composer) are just a few of my ear tittilations of choice. If it helps my kitchen radio is on Classic FM, my car radio is on Gold UK.

I stuck my gumshoes on and managed to track down Gaz -

He can be found on the latter pages of the Guitar Corner thread .

It's a tricky moment.

The result of the VAR deliberation is in. It says that although Gaz is a very fine chap with a very decent taste in guitars, there aren't enough clues about his musical taste in his posting history for Santa Korea to base a guess on. Much as I'm in favour of setting KH up to fail given the landslide of results recently, I kind of feel we should do the right thing and give him another option.

So, anyone wanna suggest another stooge? First come first served.

Yeah, or stupid. I've just scrolled through 27 pages of the Guitars thread, and Gaz finally appears on page 26. I think this is a practical joke.

edit: I've changed my mind, and my recommendation for Gaz is now Roky Erikson's The Evil One from 1981.

Awww you guys! I felt honoured to be included in this but then I see that no one has even heard of me after over 4 years and over a thousand posts - I blame my utterly unremarkable posting history :crylol:

Thanks to a fellow guitarista JBB, and thanks to KH for stepping up to a challenging task.

I will carve out some time to give this a listen but I warn you, my musical taste is an enigma, I do indeed play in a rock band but you probably should have dug out my post in the Spotify Unwrapped thread ... but, open mind, and all that ... :smiler:

I was going to bowl a googly and suggest Beethoven's 6th symphony, but it seems we're all good :newthumb:

By the way, if you want to dip a toe into classical music but haven't a clue where to start, Beethoven's 6th is perfect for you. It has some great melodies some of which may very well be familiar. Give it a go, it might set you off on an enjoyable journey of discovery.
