Think the headline sums it up quite well!

Bespoke font! The bloke can barely speak English.
Oh yes, I’m sure he used the European version of the number 7 regularly where he grew up.
Pretentious, moi?

Strange comment. It’s not an utter disgrace as it does look like the ball was over the line so correct decision.

This thread is one night criticising a linesman for not calling an offside then the next crisiting a linesman for making a split second call if a ball crossed the line.

However I do not understand why goal line technology is not being used.

This weekend I have noticed a lot of var mentions on tv and forums but I believe our “best” refs and linesman have got worse as they are used to var week in week out so not sure how you can then expect them to manage a game without it and change how they manage/approach the game.

Well, if we ended our 43 year drought with the Conference league win, why doesn't Newcastle's win in the 1969 Fairs Cup count? Both were UEFA's 3rd rated tournaments at the time.

Can I just say how much I love it when TV shows me that Noel Gallagher supports Manchester City. Same with that charismatic force of nature Ed Sheeran when Ipswich play. It's good they show them every single time, because otherwise we might forget. And it is important, after all. They are really relevant to football.

Mate it's not healthy how much you hate Moyes.

To the point you want to mug off our trophy.

Tell me what you know about the fairs cup and what you had to do to qualify for it.

WTF Are you on about? How am I mugging off our trophy win? It is a valid point is it not?
I know how Fairs Cup qualification worked, and I suspect you know too.
And, I don't 'hate' Moyes. I don't hate anybody mate. I'm too old for all that nonsense. I just happen to think he's not as good as manager as some on here do. Just my opinion.
Though why you've bought Moyes into the topic, I don't know.

It didn't look over the line to me. I certainly couldn't say 100% one way or the other.

It's a disgrace because you cannot be awarding a goal on the basis of guesswork when you can't be 100 % sure. The guy was not in line as he was several yards behind play and from his angle of vision as they showed on TV, he could not possibly have been 100 % sure.

Even TV with several different angles couldn't be 100% sure, so you simply can't award a goal in those circumstances.

The linesman has a split second to make a decision. At no point would a linesman be past the corner flag so any decisions like this would be made by the linesman being most likely not in line. So they are always pretty much guessing it’s crossed the line unless it’s hit the net.

They have the technology even without goal line technology to show where that ball was but it seems they have chosen not to bother showing the general public on any football shows.

If it hadn’t been given they would be saying it most likely looks over and we need goal line technology/var. Works both ways.

It’s definitely showing how reliant we are on technology as I doubt anyone would question the decision as it most likely looks right but because technology is out there to aid with decisions like this it’s being questioned.

As I say one minute people are moaning linesman don’t make a decision and the next questioning them for making a decision. They can’t win.

It was definitely a weekend of proving why var/technology is needed and that agenda is being pushed massively.

This weekend has summed up why VAR and GLT are needed. Was it a goal - GLT would have cleared it up, was it handball, was it offside VAR would have helped on the first and resolved the second.

The referees have not got worse, VAR has actually helped with a number of contentious decisions as the laws around things like handball have got increasingly complicated.

not a fan of Real specifically but.. take a look if you can find it on the penalty awarded to Atleti..

not even close to a foul, let alone a pen. ref didn't award it and for 100% it wasn't a penalty.

Real player looks like to play the ball, or even if he doesn't, a second or so later an Atleti player runs into his foot.

VAR awards a pen..

a joke. Macca and Ian Darke on the commentary actually laughing at the call....

and to be fair I find this pair a really decent listen... been working together for years iirc. good relationship and Macca is a VERY good analyst... not like he didn't play at the highest level either... they seem to have a very good symmetry..

I did remark on the penalty award on this very thread. Tbh I was expecting the referee to uphold his original decision not to award a penalty.

I was watching the game on La Liga TV. Which channel does Steve McManaman do the punditry on ?

Tbh matew the more I learn about when VAR and GLT are in use and when they're not the more I realise the F A Cup is a bloody farce. Replays happen but only in the qualifying rounds, and then they don't happen. Goal Line Technology can only be used in stadiums that have the equipment for it, so it's used in some games and not in others. And VAR isn't used until the fifth round in any matches and then comes into use in the later stages.

I wouldn't trust the F A to run a bloody bath, never mind a football competition.

And VAR has sucked the lifeblood out of football.

I agree with GLT wholeheartedly, as it is instantaneous. VAR just sticks two fingers up at the paying fans.

I have been really enjoying this weekends FA Cup football without VAR. It's like watching football proper again.
I like that loads more seems to be let go by the refs as maybe they they are only watching for the clear and obvious themselves, as they should be rather than having the 3rd eye there. Weirdly, maybe no VAR gives them more beleif and confidence in their decision making. If they couldn't see it, they can't give it. Hard luck. Game goes on.
The games seem to have a feel of more freedom. Goals are celebrated properly without fear of the 5 minute wait to see if a ball has brushed an arm, hand, whatever. Offside is either given or it's not. No waiting 5 minutes for someone to decide if a toenail was furthest forward.
They get them right and they get them wrong. Most wrong calls or missed little incidents are quickly forgotten in the flow of a game without VAR. The clear and obvious stuff missed adds more to the conversation in the pub.
I would definitely stick with Goal Line tech as its black and white, unlike VAR which to me adds far more grey.
I know we would get the raging hump over big ref gaffs, but I would actually rather that than the sterilised monotony VAR brings.

I have often wondered in the past why I thought I preferred football without VAR. Was it Rose tinted glasses and all that, but this weekend has been a breath of fresh air for me.

I'm not saying I'm right by the way. I can totally see the argument for it, its just that I prefer football without it.
I'm ready for the slaughtering. :lover:

Liverpool disrespecting the opposition, the fans, the competition and football in general. Never change Liverpool, never change.

Be a shame if it blew up in their smug faces.
