I recognise the guy with the sax as the bloke who played on Red Hot 'n' Blue's debut album, which still stands up - really good album.
Kev Ellis. Now in Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys.

as I know nothing about that style of music in general, when I hit the play button, I SWEAR I thought they were going to rip into "La Grange" by Z.Z. Top

:smiler: It's rockin' blues - the opening track , but was written in about 1985/1986.

Go back donkeys' years and you'll hear the same kind of thing from ordinary blues through garage etc

-

Souped up 1964 version of blues track Boogie Chillun' - this was massively popular in the clubs for a while.

Lots of 'rock' is a just more heavily produced variations of things that easily convert back to rock'n'roll - Springsteen's 'From Small Things' could have been written by Chuck Berry.

The album contains various styles- jump jive, rock'n'roll, rockabilly etc - plenty of original tracks, couple of notable covers - like Myron Lee and the Caddies

Do you take requests Bubbs?

I really enjoyed that John Fred track. I think the point at which your taste and my taste intersect most is somewhere round about there. I guess it's garage, or proto punk blues, or something. Bratty, bored, angry even.

Got any more like that?

I got the John Fred track on this album about 35 years ago, I guess.

Image

LP series like Desperate Rock'n'Roll/ Sin Alley/ Las Vegas Grind / Big Rumble all had rock'n'roll that drifted into garage

Others that were popular:

Del-Mars - Snacky Poo
Sonics - Psycho
Phantom - Love Me (LC put that in earlier)
Rumblers - Don't Need You No More

And this one was another big'un on the dance floor.

Double bubble - bit of a cheat as the first one was a hit in the US in 1964, second one was a hit over here in the 80s as a cover by Tracey Ullman. An absolute two-sided banger of a 45, don't believe they were hits in Blighty at the time of release.
