I for one was chuffed to bits for them yesterday, they celebrated the way we did in Prague.

Your comment is embarrassing

Not sure about that tbh. He's scored 10 goals 1n 26 games so far this season which is a pretty decent record in an average team, never mind for one which looks like it's going straight back down again.

They celebrated in the only way possible. A shame they had to pay London and Newcastle beer prices though. It's a lot less expensive in Prague.

Some properly bitter comments on here.

Ain't the fault of Newcastle fans who owns their club any more than it's our fault who owns ours...

Yes, the league cup is the least prestigious domestic pot, just as the Conference is the least prestigious European one. But clubs like Newcastle and West Ham aren't often in with a shout of winning the more important trophies because of the rules and regulations governing spending and such like.

So why shouldn't their fans celebrate big time ? Like us they've had some pretty dire times in recent years including spells out of the top division but their fans still turned up in their thousands to support thew team. Just as many of us with longer memories will remember Manchester City in the old third division still pulling in corwds of 25,000. It's why I don't begrudge them their recent successes.

Good luck to them. But, ffs, that Newcastle Brown Ale is bloody awful stuff isn't it ?

leicester saints and ipswich are down so time for us to look at their players who we may want:

leicester - hermansen
ipswich - delap greaves davis hutchison
saints - ramsdale harwood-bellis walker-peters

a few that I would take for us delap harwood-bellis walker-peters

time for the vultures to circle

A minor cup we would love to win. It's still a trophy, and it gets you into europe. Why would you turn your nose up at it?

Saw a picture on social media on two Newcastle boys going to the game holding hands, maybe 13 and 3 id say. On the back of their jerseys was 'rip daddy'. Delighted for them and Newcastle

When these utter pointless bllx international matches have finished (Latvia and Albania? :swear: ), the 3 teams above us in the league have hard away matches. A win against Wolves could see us jump 3 places which is something to savour while watching England only if Jarrod plays.

Delap surely Newcastle bound if they don't buy Gyökeres to replace Isak.

We can't compete with their money obviously.

Not sure what's more pathetic,

knocking a cup we would love to win
Knocking a team with great fans who haven't had success for years
Or another pathetic list

What a poor post.

2 finals if you include the 2 legged 66 affair and another 4 semis on top of that. A touch of the Hardy Kruger’s the League Cup for us. The one that got away.

Hard to answer, honestly. At least in an unbiased manner. What I'm gonna write needs to be taken with a pinch of salt as I am a Lyon supporter.

What happened in Montpellier was barely covered in national media. I saw your post last night, so I went on 3 mainstream newspapers sites (Le Monde, Le Figaro and Libération). None of them had it on their first page, and actually, only one had a dedicated short article about it. I then went on the football section of L'Equipe, and believe it or not, you couldn't find anything about it in the first page of the news feed.

Why is that? Several factors according to me, some being pure conjectures.

First of all, something else happened that focused all the media attention: there were injurious banners and chants toward Adrien Rabiot and his parents from the PSG supporters during the home game vs Marseille. There are multiple articles about it, including editorials.

Which leads me to my second point, nobody cares about Montpellier. There are a non significant club, like all the other French clubs, bar three, I'd say (I'll develop later). And football is not so deeply popular here. We, alas, are not a football country, despite the national team results.

Another factor, totally speculative, is that Montpellier is not on the Qatar black list. Now, please trust me, I'm not prone to believe conspiracy theories. But there are too many tangible elements showing how Qatar gained an almost complete control over the French football, including the football journos. Montpellier's chairman, Nicollin, is one of the ally of Nasser Al-Khelaifi in the League. I can tell you that if anything of the kind happened in Lyon, there would have been an awful lot of noise about it. The club is bigger, but I'm also pretty sure that John Textor being one of the rare people being vocal about the Qatar coercion on French football plays a significant part in the quantity of bad buzz we are facing in the media. Why would Fonseca's altercation with a referee two weeks ago being discussed on every TV, in every newspapers, whereas supporters setting their stadium on fire totally ignored? In fact, only Paris and Marseille are national media material, and Lyon, but only for the bad reasons (for instance, L'Equipe didn't even mention us reaching the EL QF on the cover page of the next day).

Back down to Earth with a bump....

Kidderminster Harriers 1 - 0 Scunthorpe United.

Absolute top of the table clash. Both teams shadow boxing most of the time, far too scared to lose, for this level there was a lot to lose. Two well organised defences and two inadequate strike forces ( why are half decent strikers at a premium at EVERY level??).
Game settled by a flukey cross that went in off a post.
The referee was genuinely appalling ( a bloke got subbed, they put the wrong number on the board and announced the wrong name, then while he was ,somewhat understandably confused and double checking ,he got booked for timewasting!....Oh, and later both managers got red carded !!),

Cold Tuesday night, 2800 turned out( hat's off to the 400 that come down from the "Bus Stop Near Grimsby" . :D )

Proper football. :newthumb:

Well, yes, had it happened 30 or so years ago over here we peobably would have. And, let's be honest, we would, as a nation, have deserved it. English football at the time was right down in the serwers and every tim e the national football team left these shore mayhem was pretty much guaranteed. I haven't seen any footage of the incident yet but the difference is that it was French nutters causeing mayhem in France, and by all accoubts at their own ground. Unacceptable, but a big difference to hordes of neanderthals wreaking havoc wherever they travelled.
