As a business it needs a radical overhaul, make its mind up whether its a car maker or a tech business.

Its debts are huge , its income falling and uncertain. Musk will not be running it 2 years from now, if it exists as an independent company at all.
He knows it's a tech business, its all about data sets

2 year services on VW is robbery. It's not required. There is bugger all to service in the main. The price they charge aswell. Go to a mobile service like cleverly auto
I lease it, they pay, but it'll go back before the two year anniversary

On battery cars.....I'm working on a project at the company that makes this insane b*stard. 0-60 in 1.38 seconds. They've promised to let me drive one in the next few weeks, which will be an absolute waste because I drive like your auntie.

Back on topic: Tesla were going to launch a new version of their Roadster this year, which was supposedly going to be even faster than the monster above and do 0-60 in less than a second according to Musk. Seems like it's been shelved now.

It’s all about the Tesla Cybercab now, a fully autonomous, two-passenger electric vehicle with no steering wheel or pedals planned to launch next year. I don’t see it happening, I mean who is going to allow a car with no steering wheel or pedals loose on the road.

If someone can explain the benefit of driverless cars I am all ears. Just for contrast in London there are 106,000 licenced mini cab drivers and 17,000 Black cab licences. Plus 25,000 bus drivers, that's 148,000 jobs in one city........ Musk is in a pissing contest with other tech entrepreneurs, this time its Uber.

Nobody is getting in a driverless cab, certainly no woman at night.

This relentless march into the arms of technology, mostly non UK, is to the direct detriment of jobs and communities.

It seems to me that whenever a technological advancement is made that means some sort of machine or computer or whatever being able to do the work that a person used to, instead of this advancement being used to make people's lives easier, giving them more leisure time or a better work/life balance etc, we just get jobs disappearing, working class people no longer able to do jobs they previously did and therefore unable to earn money, whilst wealthy investors just get richer.

Pretty much. The tech gets used to reduce the head count, and these cost savings increase the profit. Obviously many "wealthy" investors are actually our pension funds, but you've got have a job to pay into a private pension.

The Dept of Culture are trying to introduce a change in copyright law that at a stroke will impact the value of my companies asset, which we have spent 30 plus years developing.
They want to make it possible for AI companies, mostly American, to take programmes/films and use it for AI "learning" without asking.
We have a perfectly good system that protects copyright in this country, and enables companies like mine to actually sell what we want for that purpose to AI companies. Our industry, film/TV is world class, it's worth billions to the UK in skilled jobs and tax revenue, but on the alter of being "business friendly" and "being at the forefront of tech innovation" Lisa Nandy would chop us off at the knees being 1000% ignorant of the fact that when you chop large limbs off even the healthiest of animals, they limp on at best, but most just die.
The law change is utterly idiotic, but the gov have had their ears bent by tech people and as is 100% always the case, they have absolutely no idea what they are doing.

It took years and some serious law suits before Youtube, Facebook etc even acknowledged that copyright existed and that they had an obligation not to let any Tom Dick or Harry just upload onto their platforms and earn money for that. Paramount's then owner, Sumner Redstone sued them to death and we now have a workable relationship, Nandy's giveaway in trying the enable AI tech to be in UK reverses that and the corporations will remain US/Chinese.

I think there's an element of truth in that. Whenever the company I work for installs robotics or automation on a factory our view is that it's freeing up human beings to do more rewarding work, and also protecting jobs by increasing efficiency and reducing financial overhead. However, we can't insist on it.

I think I can say, hand on heart, that nobody's job has been replaced by any of out kit but I think it's inevitable at some point.

Tbf, though, when Mr Black and Mr Decker started selling electric drills there was probably a bit of pushback from the blokes who drilled holes by hand.

Krasnov’s rant about this will be entertaining. Lots of capital letters I feel.

So not because of safety fears of the product, but from people who 'no likey' Mr Musk and are willing to risk others for their vendetta.

I'd wager it's more due to how vehemently the average Canadian detests Trump and Musk at the moment.

Yeah that would be my guess as well.

Perhaps he'll chat up his mate, Trump, and ask him to put more tariffs on those pesky Canadians. That will show em. :winker:

That's what they are saying, yes. Apparently they tried to persuade Tesla to pull out voluntarily then kicked them once they refused.
