As a father of a five year old boy this programme is like watching the worst nightmare you could ever have.

100% mate... That last scene in ep 1 hit me really hard. Won't go into detail to avoid spoilers, but I could literally feel what Stephen Graham (dad) was going through

It's a masterpiece.
I feel it's a very important piece of television. Thought provoking and something we can all take lessons from.

Is it just me or is Netflix crap these days?

I was ****ing through last night looking for a film to watch - there were so few to choose from. Most were old, had already been seen or else just crap.

They also seem to be hiding the lack of numbers by being really loose with the categories, almost to the point where searching by category was pointless.

I was thinking this the other day after my monthly bill was increased to £12.99, aside from the big hitters (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul and House of Cards) and the flash in the pan series/films (Baby Reindeer, Birdbox and Adolescence) there isn't all that much on there. The film selection is probably the worst out of all the streaming services, although I did enjoy Woman of the Hour.

Unfortunately I am unable to cancel it as my toddler son will never forgive me for getting rid of Dinosaur Train.

My main issue with it is no matter how many times I :thumbdn: cartoon, musical, bollywood, anime films and series they still bloody appear in all my feeds. It would also be good if it moved stuff you'd already watched into its own section - not just 'watch again' and bloody duplicate them in other sections.

Also agree on the quality - I first thought this a couple of years ago and put it down to the post covid era of production when it was all a bit meh.

Agree that there is a fair amount of tat in there...but one thing I do like is that you don't find something that looks good, then get stung again to pay for the film/series a la Prime or Apple!

Seem to have lost the 'already watched' aspect of Netflix. On the other hand, I've re-watched stuff wherein you know bits & pieces but have deffo watched it 3 years or so previously. LIttle moments in the stories. I do check dates. I'm 66 and can't find my glasses though.

there was a big article about how **** Amazon tv has been lately. and how they're spending inordinate amounts of money giving top script writers etc. an unlimited budget to basically do what they want. ergo they turn out crap when not directed toward a specific direction. doesn't seem to be confined to Amazon either

thought you might want to read this article in today's Guardian.

Big stars, little shine: is anyone actually watching Apple TV+ shows?

The service might boast A-listers like Natalie Portman and Colin Farrell but in a competitive streaming landscape, it’s struggling to be heard

Or at least it would be, were it not for a new report claiming that Apple TV+ is currently losing a billion dollars a year.

According to the Information, TV+ is currently the only Apple subscription service that isn’t profitable. This is said to be down to a number of factors. The first is that despite having 45 million subscribers, Apple blows through a $5bn production budget every year. And when a lot of it is being spent on blockbuster movies that squander every scrap of their potential – like the $200m spy disaster Argylle – then all this expense starts to look like bad financial sense. The report claims Apple TV+ is losing $1bn annually.

As a producer who works with these streamers I’d make the observation that they are tech companies 1st, “studios” 2nd whose production commissioning and acquisition execs don’t know what they are doing on a very basic level. But the reality is that $5b for Apple or Amazon (The CEO of Amazon Studios just stepped down) is small change. Netflix is vulnerable, but not Apple or Amazon.

I forgot to update Netflix with my new card details so had an email from them re subscription and it occurred to me I probably hadn't watched it for the best part of a year and given the price rises in recent years didn't bother.

Crap might be a strong word. But like lots of channels now DEI seems to have clouded the judgement of producers over quality when it comes to crime drama. Sky, BBC and ITV are producing pretty average TV right now, and Netflix are falling into that trap.

I do think their documentaries are pretty decent though.

Even Adolescence, as good as it was, just had the feel of a 4hr public service film.

I cancelled netflix a while back, and more recently cancelled prime. Only one I have right now is apple tv and that's only due to a 3 month trial.

I generally just download whatever I want to watch these days on the PC and then just stream it to my Nvidia shield.
