The Straight and Narrow, Steep Hill, Lincoln.
Nice, clean, big airy place with helpful bar staff. Lots of little nooks and crannies to have quiet conversation. £1.75 for a large tonic water with ice and lemon. Massive selection of beers to choose from and i'm going to go back and try these at some point.

Shame. Memories of me Dad and uncles (Patsy, Johnny, Jimmy all RIP now) joined them only a few times but they would turn a bag of roll-mops into one of them old ash trays (polythene turned inward of course) and sink pints and set the world to rights. 'The Brains Trust' I dubbed them. Long gone nowbtajim - mcfc wrote: ↑Thu Mar 20, 2025 7:17 pm I’m hearing The Denmark Arms in E6 has called last orders for good?

A first visit to The Kings Inn in Shambles, York (it opened in October). A theme pub (a royal theme) and has rather overdone the theme imo. A little too loud and gloomy for my liking. Still, had a nice pint of Yorkshire Heart Blackheart stout. Good that they are supporting a local brewery.
Moved on to the more established Last Drop Inn and a pint of Brass Castle Hazelnut Mild. Another local brewery. Tasty.
Finishing with Theakston’s Old Peculiar at the Black Swan Inn and a steak and ale pie with chip, peas and gravy. Lovely.
PS Has anyone been in either of the House of Trembling Madness pubs in York.

Not today, but couple of weeks back.
Earl of Derby - Cambridge
Greene King place. Not the most salobrious but pleasant enough. Beer good, nice food. Friendly staff 7/10
Weavers Arms - Norwich
Gastropub tucked away not far from Magadalen Road. Excellent food, Friendly atmosphere. Small but even the punters were amiable. Helping me in and out of the place. Situated near a school and Uni so a few educated types
Both pubs did excellent drops of Hazy Days

Is it on the same site as the old one? Near to the church where Upton Park was?

Think you might be referring to the old supporters club Jim rather then the working man's club.btajim - mcfc wrote: ↑Thu Mar 27, 2025 1:44 pm Is it on the same site as the old one? Near to the church where Upton Park was?
The East Ham Working Mens club wasn't far down Barking road and tucked away a bit. (Past Nathan's towards East Ham).
I'm led to believe it's roughly on the same site as the old club and intend to give it a go at some stage (if they let me in).
Members and guests only apparently.

The Capenters Arms, Walesby, Notts.
Visited my mate in Walesby, so we went and had a few beers and a meal in this pub.
It was totally banged out with people eating a dinking. The owner (and chef) Marco, is a lovely fellah and he cooks great italian food, with a twist. He tends to use a lot of paprika and smilar spices that give his food a unique (for Italian food) smokey quality. I love it. I had spaghetti Arrabbiata topped with deep fired crunchy onions. It was brill.
I drank Estrella and at £5 + a pint it was dear for this part of the world, but it's a classy place, with a great atmosphere and a bustling and busy vibe.
It's definately a place to visit if you are in this rural part of the world.

Went out for a combined Mothers Day / Birthday lunch/ drinks bash at a place called The Black Swann at Peas Pottage in West Sussex, yesterday. One again, a terrible meal. Just as well, it was only a Kiddies size portion. Now, you all know why I only choose Indian or Chinese. Needless to say, I won't ever be going there again.

Popped into the Lumley near Skegness station as was waiting for my train yesterday
Was about 1.30pm so imagine my surprise to find a Billy Idol tribute singer doing his stuff - and very good he was as well!

Shame. In the 80s and 90s The Black swan used to be called The James King and was one of the first gastro pubs. I still remember the mung bean curry I had there in about 1985, proper delicious.Puff Daddy wrote: ↑Mon Mar 31, 2025 10:08 am Went out for a combined Mothers Day / Birthday lunch/ drinks bash at a place called The Black Swann at Peas Pottage in West Sussex, yesterday. The Cross Keys, Swansea
An old church converted in to a pub that’s involved and included it all. Pool, sports on tv etc. Excellent range of drinks too. My lager was £4.55 which was cold and crisp. Multi generational clientele.

Last Sunday I was in The Trumpet in Ledbury, Herefordshire. I had what was one of the best roast dinners I have ever had in my life. The Yorkshire pudding was as big as my head. We were looking at the size of the dinner when they brought out 2 tureens full of vegetables. It was amazing. They do a good line in local ales too.
