Re: Favourite Curry
As per JB's Boots above, I like to explore the menu and try interesting sounding, previously untried, curries. However, if I have to nominate my 'go too' order, it would be...
Prawn Vindaloo
Coconut Rice
Saag Aloo
Tarka Dhal
Plain Naan
Honourable mention for the Goat Curry, sold outside Old Trafford. A tad overpriced, but always tasty.
A few years back, en route to Thailand, I intentionally booked a long stopover in Mumbai, just so I had time to leave the airport and travel into the city, to experience eating a curry in India. More in honour of my father, who was born in India in 1924 and is entirely responsible for my curry addiction, but it was highly enjoyable and another tick off the bucket list.

Re: Favourite Curry
Used to love Vesta curry back in the day, you can still buy them on the Amazon.
In a curry house its chicken pathia, bombay aloo, pilau rice and popadums.
There's a chinese on the way home from local and often grab a take away, chicken chow mein, chips and curry sauce. comfort food.

Re: Favourite Curry
We're staying in Nairn for 3 weeks and for 3 days next week our Daughter and her partner are joining us -
The plan is to have a huge Indian Take Away from The Royal Bengal - we had one last year and it's far better than our local in Kyleakin .
My usual fare is Chicken Rogan [ boring but consistently tasty ] , Aubergine bhaji , onion bhaji , pilau rice and keema nan .
Might be more adventurous next time but whenever I'm adventurous it ends up being too sweet [ passanda , ceylon curry etc ] or too hot [ Madras ] - though I did once order a Madras from the take away in Kyle and it was wonderful .

Re: Favourite Curry
Inspired, I've just ordered Chicken Tikka Pathia, pilau rice, plain naan, 2 poppadoms and onion salad.
IPA's in the fridge.
Mouth's watering waiting on those little silver trays being delivered.

You know when I said “let’s meet up for a curry”? I’ve reconsidered after your last two posts. The Old Man of Storr wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 11:03 am Vesta Beef Curry served with Heinz Curried Beans and Uncle Ben's cooked to death .

Re: Favourite Curry
Prawn Puri to start and Murghi Masala as a main course. You can order the sides as long as it’s not aloo gobi or anything with cauliflower in it. Devil’s vegetable.

Re: Favourite Curry
my fave is
Chicken Cylon with a peshwari naan, if i have a starter i usually have mixed kebab.
If i feel like some heat i usually go for
King Prawn Phaal and peshwari naan.
If i have alcohol i go for Bangla Beer as its less gassy than cobra

Re: Favourite Curry
Patak’s spice pastes are excellent. Try mixing with yogurt before marinading chicken pieces then cooking in a hot oven (or even better, on skewers over a bbq).daytimedave wrote: ↑Sat Mar 22, 2025 3:06 pm the chicken is marinating in the fridge .

Re: Favourite Curry
A massive fan, subscribe to his YouTube channel and am a member of the Facebook community he created called ‘The secret curry club’.
His 30 minute curry series are very good, we’ve made most of them. However, if you look at his slightly older curries you will find his base gravy and the subsequent curry’s he makes with it, they all taste like the best version of a British curry house recipe you’ve had. This is our preferred option, just a bit of work and patience making a large base gravy on a Sunday, then they can be portioned up into a dozen plus batches and frozen. Then making curry’s during the week is super quick and simple, almost every popular curry uses the same base gravy..
