Eternal excuse for no link (smartphone). Parrently down to Roger Daltrey not liking 'boom boom boom'.
Seems to me Daltrey's always been fussy, he didn't like Kenny Jones either. Thing is, Starkey's been doing gigs with them since 1996. His old man seems to have been a drummer as well. Anyone old enough to be bothered?

Starkey is a glorified session drummer.
Competent, but nothing special. I can't imagine him being too difficult to replace.
Used to love The Who but for me the band was finished the night that Keith Moon died.
I quite enjoy some of the tracks on Endless Wire (even though there's a lot of rehashing of the Tommy and Quadrophenia material) but truth be told I don't think they've done more than the odd good track since about 1978.

Time to call it a day, methinks.
Worst gig I ever saw was The Who at Empire Pool Wembley early 1990's, Townsend played acoustic guitar all night. It was like karaoke.
I think it’s well established that Roger Daltrey's hearing is shot to pieces. I suggest that's a more plausible reason for him not being able to hear the key. He should retire.
always wanted to see the who ,saw them at the O2 back in 2013 i think .a hazey memory now
done most of their hits except 'my generation' which kinda left me feeling a little bit cheated .

From my experience you didn’t really miss out. It went on for about 8-9 minutes. A geriatric Townsend windmilling and pissing about. Unnecessary guitar and drum solos. Just play the bloody tune as recorded ffs.
Watching old live footage, even when he was young Townsend would fart about playing loads of bum notes cos he was off his balloon. People saying they should quit, but it's what they are and what they love doing. Time will force and end, alas.
I keep thinking The Who are a band I should like and believe me I've tried, but there's something about them that doesn't work for me barring one or two songs. I don't know what it is, perhaps they're trying too hard to be edgy and avant garde.

Skewing thread from topic maybe, but it's a matter of what peels your banana. Always and continue to see Townsend as a masterful and original songwriter, challenging and shocking lyrics especially. Well past it, but The Who? Genius!
