It's always more nuanced than a headline, but it's a win all round for the definition of a woman, in law, to be defined. At least for now.

I think there a lot of people whose professional reputations and careers have been damaged by this nonsense.

It would be hard to blame them if they sued the absolute living daylights out of the herd who have applied it.

It also provides absolute justification for media outlets outside of the establishment which have been captured by this crap.

cancel culture in full effect !
Or clickbait rubbish?

Nothing that Winston said is untrue. Nothing that Bruce said is untrue. He's been on tv plenty of times since. Who exactly is talking about the need for an apology?

On another note, I don't understand why so many people are unable to see the difference between the concepts of gender and biological sex. Maybe it's just because they don't want to.

Which obviously didn't amount to much if it takes judges to make it lawful, what happened to parliament making the laws and the judiciary enacting them.......?

It is such a blurred line though isn't it? Many trans women want to be thought of as women, and that includes access to areas biological women find private.

Parliament make it lawful. Judges interpret that law and set precedent.

Thats exactly what happened.

"Many"?

How many is many? Have you encountered many trans women that want access to areas biological women find private? Or any, even? And were they transexual or transgender?

Not having a pop, Bendy. I think you're generally open minded about the issue, but I also think your current opinion is maybe more informed by sensationalist news reporting than real life. Sorry if that sounds sniffy.

Discussing this with some female acquaintances and they brought up the issue of women who are unfortunate enough, through no fault of their own, to look like men. I believe the term is 'butch'. It's already an issue for some women who are being 'toilet policed' by concerned citizens due to the overblown approach to this topic. "You don't look like a bird, love" was one of the more polite responses they received from a man when trying to use a public toilet.

I have no idea of what ratio of trans people view themselves as the opposite biological sex to that they were born as, but it has to be a reasonable proportion given the amount of news around sport/prisons/hospitals/work places etc etc. I don't disagree with trans people thinking that way, surely if you are that strongly driven to change yourself visually, take hormones etc, then mentally feeling like the sex you are aiming for must be the goal? I do accept that if you have presented yourself as female for a decade and lived that life, you would want to not be seen in mens toilets any more.

Yes the press is always going to jump on such things, but they are a fairly regular issue to discuss in modern society. It is nearly impossible to solve in a way that everyone wins unfortunately, the venn diagram of women's rights and trans rights has a big overlap.

What this law has done is allow women to legally say they are uncomfortable, or they find situations unfair on them, without being labelled haters or dismissed from their careers, which is finally fair to them.

Yes, it's probably impossible to pass legislation that instantly puts everything right. It's a long road and there will be plenty of stumbles and pratfalls, similar to how it's been with mainstreaming of homosexuality.

Ultimately, though, I would hope we'll reach a point where the general public understand and accept the way these people feel, enabling them to have rewarding lives.

When it comes to toilet facilities, wouldn't it just be easier to also have unisex ones?

Women tend to think men have disgusting toilet habits.

Wouldn’t that take the limelight off of trans rights though ?
