E17, no idea what this means and never heard it before but I think it's a compliment.

It used to be the back handed compliment given to Kumbers by Chas, Mush.

Re: Packing it all in? (Negativity post)
Although being close to packing it in I am giving it one more season.
I’m coming up to 40 years as a ST holder and have been struggling to find the motivation to attend since the move to the LS as I find the stadium especially, and the Olympic Park soulless. I also detest what the PL has become with money dominating and shithousing seemingly the way forward.
With my son starting his own adult playing journey I have spent far more Saturdays over the last couple of seasons watching him play than West Ham and cannot say that I have missed it.
The reason that I am giving it one more season is that he will be off to Uni in September so it will be a case of will I get my love back with my weekends ‘free’ again. It’s not even that I go alone. There is a group of us who go together, and have done since the early/mid 80’s but there are a few who are questioning if it is worth it anymore.

Re: Packing it all in? (Negativity post)
Case in point.
I watched that video posted on here about the stadium the other day and it reminded me of just how depressing it is over there.
My pal just offered me a spare for tomorrow and I turned it down. Would much prefer to watch it on the telly than go over there.
I hope the owners are happy. I'm sure they are.

You turned down going to support your own team in person to watch it on tele solely because you don't like the stadium. Really? I mean really? F*****g baffles me, it really does.

I support my team. how can you turn down a free ticket ? I dislike the stadium but its where my team play so I will go.
there are plenty of good bars and pubs nearby and food outlets away from the crap served at the LS.
the only things that will stop me attending matches will be age, health, ticket prices and cost of travel

I'd do the same. It's not just the stadium, although it's the major consideration. Factor in the cost, disrupted travel, hike to the ground and ridiculous security checks to watch a dead rubber. No thanks.
Good luck to those who do attend however, I hope you have a great day

If I lived a tube ride away and had a free ticket I would definitely go.
But I live 3 hours drive in. Probably 4 hours door to door. I enjoyed going to Green Street and making a day of it. Feeling part of the culture and history my dad told me about. I don't feel much if any of it at the Olympic Park.

Re: Packing it all in? (Negativity post)
I’ve packed it in before. Gave up my season ticket 2 years after the move. My son kept his going. Now I go a handful of games a season. Whenever there’s a spare going but sometimes even then we can’t be bothered.
The walk to the stadium is crap
The stadium is crap
The beer is crap
The food is crap. ApartFrom the balti pies.
The atmosphere is crap apart from the odd game.
VAR is dogshit
Dropping over £100 a game. Got to be honest would rather play golf these days. I would have got pelters from Chas for that back in the day too.

Re: Packing it all in? (Negativity post)
It's not just the stadium Dio, tho my post suggested as such, it's the whole experience.
I feel completely disconnected from it all. Watching ants run about, surrounded by tourists, watching people trying to start a chant and seeing it fall on deaf ears - it's just not West Ham anymore. Someone posted the other day about all the aspects that have disappeared. I miss the tribal element. Thousands of us walking to the ground swarming the Barking Road. Just my feelings mate. You are entitled to yours.x
Re: Packing it all in? (Negativity post)
Sticky. I have also turned town a free ticket. Completely agree with where you are coming from mate. They can stick West Ham London where the sun dont shine. I supported West Ham United.

Thought this was interesting from Barney Ronay this am and vaguely relevant:
‘It is probably fair to say actual, long-standing legacy fans are a mixed blessing for the more speculative Premier League owners, who want you to like football just enough to buy it, to click, to subscribe, but not enough to feel you have any say in what happens‘

Re: Packing it all in? (Negativity post)
FWIW if someone offered me £50, but I had to take a ticket to go to West Ham Vs Southampton today I would probably turn it down.
I find the whole experience utterly soul destroying & a waste of a Saturday. Just my opinion, but I know of so many others that equally hate the experience.
Loads of us meeting down the pub today to watch the match

I do wonder how illegal streams effect people's attitudes to attending football matches.
It's clearly a lot easier to put your feet up and watch it all in an armchair. I reckon it's the same for many.

this is something else i don't get about the modern stadium manta. they are designed with maximum comfort in mind, for the most accessible, convinient match day experience possible.
what can be more comfortable and convinient that watching from your settee? it's free too.

Exactly. I was chatting to my brother about WHU and the playing style, poor season, was about reason number 8 on the ‘ Reasons to be Disillusioned ‘ list.Up the Junction wrote: ↑Thu Apr 17, 2025 11:10 am Us West Ham supporters are well conditioned to failure and gross under-achievement on the pitch.
I will only speak for myself, but what's happening on the pitch has very little bearing on any antipathy I might currently feel toward the institution that is WHUFC.

Re: Packing it all in? (Negativity post)
First season without a ST since the 90s , was really anxious to see what It was going to be like not going over there, can happily say I've not missed it . Watch every game , listen to most podcasts and read the forums daily and every single outlet talk about this same topic ! Football is going in a completely different direction to game I fell in love with so it's not just west ham
