I've just been through the last 20 pages of Dave's posting history and I can't find a single mention music. I may be unable to fulfil this fixture

To back Korea Hammer up here, I don't think Dave the Dub frequents this side of the Liffey much, Korea deserves a re-draw.

"That was an appeal on behalf of the Alzheimer's Society, now we return you to your scheduled programming....."

So, I've been looking forward to this one, it could prove to be KH's sternest test yet. A paradigm of refined and epicurean tastes, our very own Man Out of Time........ Bubbles1966.

I'm hoping it'll be Racey. I suspect it'll be industrial noise again.

Yeah. Korea will suggest something that he thinks you might enjoy (usually it's a record, but curry, massage, self immolation are not ruled out).

You then have to say whether you like it. One point to KH if you like it but already knew it, three to KH if you like it and didn't already know it, and two to the rest of the world if you were meh or less.

Then you need to elect the next person for Korea to consider.

I'd give him a few days to come up with something. I reckon you're gonna be one of his more difficult cases, especially if he's aiming for three points.

Yes, I'm not confident about this one, but perhaps inspiration will strike. I will aim at Sunday.

you just have to look at the thread he started, and is about the only poster on the subject, doo-wop from the 50's and earlier. and by some almost obscure bands/singers that no one in the entire universe has ever heard of, except him, of course.

go to the closest record shop, look in their bargain bin 300 albums for 50 p and less, and you'll have a head start mate...

Cheeky git :crylol:

I ain't telling tales here but there's two on Junco's list where I had their first five albums - and one of them I won't let go of in particular because it kinda reminds me of being an idiot 16 year old , as opposed to the idiot 58 year old I am now

/\ however the part-homage-part-satire approach might not appeal to 'purists'. Some of the original Mothers did actually play this stuff through the 50's though!

I've just played it through and I'd forgotten how much I liked it, according to wiki they recorded it at the same time they were recording Uncle Meat

So, listening to the stuff in Bubbles1966 thread a bit (which I've really enjoyed, I should add), I am still pretty short on options for a recommendation.:

However, he did say somewhere that he's been listening to lots of music he never thought he'd like recently. So I'm going to suggest something that seems to me to have a connecting strand to some of the 50s stuff, while hopefully being fresh and not derivative. Having said, that, this record is still 20 years old, but it's one I've loved throughout that time.

Also, it's short, in case he doesn't like it.

My recommendation for Bubbles1966 is TV On The Radio's debut Young Liars EP (2003)

If you don't spotify, it's also on youtube

You needn't have worried.

I've never heard of the band , nor any of the tracks before.

Track one - Satellite - runs with a nice backbeat , which is pretty much part and parcel of my favoured music and set me twitching, and as someone famous once said - "if you feel the music, you can't help but move".

I also found myself thinking of songs like Crimson and Clover by Tommy James and Siouxsie's version of Dear Prudence with some of the background sounds.

It had an element of late 60s psychedelia, early 80s synth and late nineties , and perhaps much more-so with track 4 - Young Liars.

Staring At The Sun almost instantly reminded me of the 'hot sun/riding shotgun' thing that was around recently and made me wonder if the newer artist had pinched it??

And the final track, Mr Grieves, is a pretty good acapella, vocal harmony offering - to the point where I started wondering whether it was a cover of an original , so I went looking. Think I found it, not 50s, but they do a damn fine job with it, especially converting it from it's original state into a vocal group piece.

If it all came on in the car whilst I was driving, I wouldn't move the dial, and I'd happily leave it play :tick:

Norse is next, I think

That is a genius piece of work by KH. I really thought he'd throw up some obscure and arcane rockin' blues thing, but he went a whole different angle.

I'm not sure what the score is anymore, it's like

Korea Hammer 7 zillion : 4 Rest Of The World
