The geezer at Wolves has done a lot better than O'Neil with those players and circumstances
Potter has not done a better job than Loppy with our players and circumstances

Point is new managers can do better than incumbents even with squad full of players that are not 'theirs' - if Loppy was as bad as made out and players hated playing for him surely improving on him should have been quite easy
I think wolves were better set to be turned around than we were I also think the stamp of player they have suits potter better.

We are 3 managers and 2.5 years into under performance. It's going to take more than a few months to sort out imo. May be potter isn't up to the job but it's too early to know I think.

Of course, some have been a lot worse as well
Exactly. It is a nonsense debate as there is no like for like comparison. Glad you see that.

There is no like for like comparison. My point is that the narrative that Potter could not be expected to do better as it is not his squad, is flawed

It’s not enough to fell a rotten tree, you have to tear it out of the soil from twig to root. For me a surgical, incremental summer somehow sounds even riskier than a high turnover one. Neither are ideal

That’s for other clubs. We are masters of the new manager whimper

Tbh West Ham don’t change managers often enough to have a reliable barometer

Munetsi started all but one fixture since joining. Two key additions. Especially in terms of physicality. Something the squad had been lacking according to Gary O'Neil and Pereira, who had both addressed the issue this season before the players got brought in.

Tbh it's a situation that sums up the mess. This will be about 4 straight summers where (to stretch your metaphor) a root and branch rebuild was required.

We seem to end every season needing 8 or 9 players, often to replace some of the 8 or 9 brought in the year before.

Still though this summer feels a bit exceptional. Most obvious recentish comparison that comes to mind is when Allardyce came in with Nolan et al

Correct, it’s just another nonsense debate really

No two clubs are the same, no two clubs issues for underperforming are the same

It’s just another dig at Potter and an attempt to deflect away from the crap job of his predecessor

Stop talking to him.

Please stop using Jock as a pejorative. It’s not as gross as tarring all Germans with the sins of their past, but it’s not a good thing to do.

I’d like to also remind users about the terms and conditions they signed up to: Forum Terms of Use
That includes complaining about moderation, which is usually something you won’t see in action anyway.

I am glad some of you went to schools, and that some were even the same school, but it’s off-topic and if I’m deleting more pages of Michael Howard quality debate, I have to snip the trip down memory lane, too.

I was happier when for the first 27 years of my support we had only 2 managers and had won 3 Fa cups and a European trophy.
I think we would all be happy with that. Problem is the last two have been/look to be dogshit. Moyes,
Vitor Pereira. Just two examples of taking over struggling teams and making an impact with the current squad they have inherited. Potter has done anything but that. Deadman walking.

How much money do we really think Sullivan will give to Potter when he never really wanted him? 6 month contract was the plan. Ending in 17th place doesn't help Potter's cause - especially if the break clause in 12 months is true.
