Snooker: 2026 World Championships (The Crucible)

Post by Up the Junction »

Think it's worth a new thread for the sport's flagship event.

Qualifiers begin in early April - is there another Zhao ready to go from qualifier to Crucible champion?

Not long to go now...

For details of the rest of the season's events, including all winners, see this thread:

The top 16 seeds will be drawn at random against the 16 players who come through the qualifying rounds, which run from April 6-15 at the English Institute of Sport. The draw will take place around 8.45am on Thursday April 16th and you can listen on BBC Radio Five Live or watch on the BBC Sport website.

Out of curiosity I looked at the ticket prices for the qualifiers. I think they start at £12 for an entire day!! If I was in the UK I can think of much worse ways to spend a few days!!

I’m not sure any of the qualifiers will go deep this year. I do like a strong first round at the crucible though, so I’m hoping Ding, Carter and McGill make it. Any of the big boys have an off day and those three have the game to do some damage. I also hope Un-Nooh gets there. Great character and great when he brings his A game.

My winner this year? If not Xintong then I’ll go Selby.

Well this is embarrassing. Referee awards four-point foul to the wrong player.

Fortunately Yulu recovered to beat Womersley 10-7, and becomes the first female player to win a match at the World Championship in nine years.

In other news, Jimmy White has fallen at the first hurdle - the 119th seed goes down 10-9 in a tiebreaker to Gao Yang (seeded 97).

He won't win it this year (currently 8-1 up in QR1), but Lan is definitely shaping up as one for the future - one of several really exciting teenagers on the circuit right now.

Crucible tickets dropped in the inbox today - good seats this year: Row D, central.

Give the KUMB boys (me and UtJ Jnr) a wave if you're watching the final session of the QFs on Tuesday 28th.

These final "Judgement Day matches are free and without adverts if you register with WST Play btw 👍

Also available on the WST YouTube page, but with ads and, in my experience, annoying buffering.

Some great young players on the verge of qualification for Sheffield. Pulled and Moody from England, Kowalski from Poland and Aaron Hill from Ireland all in action tonight.

Today's results: winners being three English players, two Chinese, one Welsh, one Iranian and the first ever Pole to reach the Crucible (Antoni Kowalski).

Also delighted to see 19-year-old Stan Moody make it to The Crucible for the first time - the first British teenager to qualify since Judd Trump in 2007, no less - after a right humdinger with Jiang Jun, whose last contribution was to smash his cue against the table after missing an easy yellow in the deciding frame which allowed Moody in.

84th seed Liam Pullen, a year Moody's senior will also appear for the first time - almost certainly now as the rank outsider - after edging past Noppon Saengkham.

Liam Pullen [84] 10 - 8 Noppon Saengkham [45]
Pang Junxu [29] 10 - 8 Jackson Page [36]
Stan Moody [44] 10 - 9 Jiang Jun [76]
David Gilbert [25] 10 - 6 Aaron Hill [40]
Antoni Kowalski [69] 10 - 8 Jamie Jones [60]
Matthew Stevens [48] 10 - 7 Stuart Bingham [17]
Zhou Yuelong [24] 10 - 4 Michael Holt [56]
Hossein Vafaei [32] 10 - 4 Gao Yang [97]

The final eight qualifying ties to take place tomorrow.

As for live coverage, you can also watch every qualifier via Huya and VLC.

Open a commend prompt on your PC (Windows key, type 'CMD', press Enter) and assuming you have VLC player installed, simple copy and paste the following link/s to view that particular table (make sure you c&p the whole line of text, it seems only part of the link is being parsed on here).

Agreed... just a shame it was at the expense of West Ham fan Bingham, who's had a poor season by his standards.

Been a bad morning for my boy Lisowski - about to go 5-0 down against He. Surety also struggling, 4-1 behind to Zhang - as is LInes, 4-0 down to Highfield.

A coupe of belters that appear to be going all the way, Brecel/Jones (2-2) and Carter/McGill (2-3).
